Asking 6224W/6324W owners a favor. (Regarding fan noises when laptop's idle)
If you:
- Own a 6224W / 6324W
- Restored to factory settings in BIOS
- Disabled DTS Calibration
- Did not update to latest BIOS
Can you record an audio or a video to show how loud the "low" fan sounds are? Like the sound of the fan rotating at low when the laptop is idle.
I want to know if it'll bother a lot if I'm reading beside it, or if I'm typing up notes in a school class.Last edited by whatevs; 10th August 2007 at 03:48 AM.

The other question you need to ask is which version of the BIOS.
The latest BIOS update has attempted to reduce fan noise (among other things) and the fan in my 6024W stays off for much of the time when under normal use. However, there are occasional bursts of fast fan activity.

Re: Asking 6224W owners a favor. (Regarding fan noises when laptop's idle)
So you stayed with the latest BIOS then?
My fan sometimes does what I think you mentioned somewhere else. It keeps switching between highest and a lower setting, presumably in some sort of temperature fedback loop. Like it needs a setting in between.
It doesn't do that very often though.Zepto Znote 6024W

I know John, I saw the other post and read about you testing it out.
I'm not a big fan of the sudden bursts, because as you described, it can get annoying.

I have made a movie with my mobile phone and I will upload it for you!
But it changes the real view of the sound of the fan, because it's not annoying!Zepto Znote 6224W: 14,1" @ 1440 x 900/ nVidia GO 8600M GT 512MB/ Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2,20GHz 800MHz 4MB

Re: Asking 6224W owners a favor. (Regarding fan noises when laptop's idle)
On factory settings my 6324 tries to keep the temp between 38 to 46. That means when it hits 46, the fan kicks in and it takes it about 5min to cool down. When it's cooled, the fan stops, the temp start rising and about 90sec later when the temp is 46, the fan starts again.
I'll try give the new bios a go, and tell how that works out for me.

Re: Asking 6224W owners a favor. (Regarding fan noises when laptop's idle)
I just want to say that it's depends on the OS too.. My friend installed XP instead of vista and the fan got quieter... Didn’t spin that much... Think vista uses more cpu power than xp and makes it warmer... Don't know how other laptops (like IBM, Dell etc) fans works (how much fan noise) in vista with aero and all the effect ON that vista offers! Anybody that have an idée about this ? (Just a thought)

CLB-NL, thanks!
WingManny, your situation sounds very similar to John's after he installed the new BIOS.
makaveli, yea I'm pretty sure Vista puts more stress on the laptop and hence makes it heat up quicker.

I've just received my 6224.. what program are you using for the CPU temps? I tried speedfan and it was showing 60 degrees when just browsing.. thought it was a little high.. Haven't been able to see how loud the fan is as housemates have had tv on all day

Notebook Hardware Control :-)
And the promised movie: http://rapidshare.com/files/48308589/MOV00037.3GP.html
It lasts one minute and I've filmed my leds on the front!
You hear a soft airflow from the fan on the movie! In reallife you hear it less!Last edited by CLB-NL; 11th August 2007 at 08:20 AM.
