    Default Computer freezes momentarily

Does this ever occur to anyone? Occasionally my computer seems to freeze momentarily for a few seconds before returning back to normal, this happens usually when browsing the net or clicking on different browser windows, all of a sudden the screen just freezes, for several seconds, then it's back to normal again. This occurs to several computers I have, and I can't find a solution to fix the issue.

my computer at work does that sometimes... very irritating. i've turned off as much startup crap as i feel is reasonable to do on a computer which doesn't belong to me, but so far nothing's really helped.

Could be due to lots of background processes running, or maybe not enough memory? What are the specs on the computers?

yes it is almost certainly due to a poor CPU and not enough RAM. Posting the specs would help us greatly.

Also try and defragement the PC and do a regisry cleanup. That might help.

for me, like i said, work computer, only so many things i can kill that aren't in use. the specs of this computer aren't too bad. 2.8 p4, 1gb ram. atm there's 40 processes, which is a tad high, but not high enough that i should be getting lag. the lag only kicks in once or twice a day, but it's still frustrating.

What programs are you running at work?

Also, I find sometimes the IT department starts to send out computer updates and such that you sometimes don't realize are running. If everything is supposed to be running that is and your coworkers have no problems, it could be your machine that's defective as well.

At home I have a P4 2.5Ghz w 1GB memory, at work I just purchased a new Dell Celeron 2.5Ghz with 512MB memory. I don't play games or do a lot of 3D graphics work on both computers, only normal tasks such as preparing word documents, browsing webpages, checking emails, etc, some light use of Photoshop, but the temporary freezing problem normally occurs when surfing the net.

What kind of pages are you surfing? If they are media intensive, I'd be checking to see what kind of settings you have especially with the media players and the temporary internet folder settings. I know in the past that surfing can be slowed down by the browser setting automatically checking for updates every time you load up the page, or you have a small storage space for files that you end up having to reload all the pages time and time again.

I know I had a problem with Realplayer one time and I resorted to uninstalling/reinstalling and the problem went away.

Can't think of much else...I remember my issue with freezing came with my very slow/old computer. The new dv8000 really sped things up

The last time I had that, it was a over heating problem.
