Share your not well-known software that is handy or replace function come with your computer.
since I started visit NBR, i find different "cute" software that seem promising and try them up. Which end up causing a bloated registry and ultimately widowsn re install.
Now, I just did a re install and lack of trial and error leave me itching.
post fun/useful/un-common software you use.
good examples:
Monitory off - turn your monitor off just like think pad fn f3
junction magic - scan all junction point and create junction point
bad examples:
temp monitoring
office
chrome/firefox

I like to keep my software down to a minimum, which usually means I don't use too much software that duplicates existing functionality. DesktopInfo is a good tool, though.

Some good ones:
Monitor Off is great.
Network activity in the tray to get the blinking icon from the 'good' old days (great to spot any unwanted activity).
Agent Ransack, finds all the stuff that w7 search should have found.HP 6730b XP pro

I always read people use a 3rd party program for copying stuff within windows, does that help copying/moving or just a better GUI?

These tools were more relevant before Windows 7; W7's file transfers have become far more reliable and efficient. That said, it's still not perfect, especially with massive quantities of small files.
The best third-party tool I've tried is FastCopy (link in signature); consistently got better speeds with small file workloads than W7's file transfers or TeraCopy.

One of my must-haves is WhoCrashed. It basically deciphers the retarded BSOD text into plain English - what caused the crash and perhaps what may be done to resolve it (if it happens frequently). It's miles better than the "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown/crash" dialogue that pops up after a system crash. (Also saves you the hassle of checking the Windows Event Viewer logs).
This is especially helpful when you've recently installed a plethora of software or drivers; troubleshooting unstable drivers is a lot easier with this little program.

Not exactly "software" per say, but on my dell laptop there is no eject cd button on the keyboard and sometimes fumbling around the side of the laptop to find the eject button can be annoying, so why not use nircmd and create a right-click context menu that says "Eject CD/DVD?" Genius!
