Default How to use Acer recovery discs

Hi, sorry but I'm asking a very basic question but can anyone help me on how to use Acer recovery discs. I have an Acer Aspire 5920, its about 3 years old. The hard drive died and I had it replaced. It has come back with a generic version of Vista loaded and I was told I need to use the recovery discs to load it up properly with drivers etc. The instruction I got on what to do next was load the first cd, close and start the laptop, and to press F2 when the Acer logo comes and choose the CD drive as number 1. It was already in the number 1 place. Then to save changes follow the instructions. When I do this it just opens up to a normal desktop screen. The cd drive makes noise as it opens, but no options are offered for using the recovery discs. I'm not too bad with computers, but I'm lost on this stuff, and I'd appreciate if someone could tell me, in dummy terms, what I need to do to use these recovery discs.

    Thanks
    Sandra

Based on what you said, they're asking you to boot from the CD which is supposed to install a fresh copy of Vista however you already have one installed on the replacement hard drive. Does everything show up correctly in Device Manager (Right click My Computer / Manage / Device Manager)? If so, you're all set.

Hi Roxshot, thanks for your reply. I did what you said and I have a list of stuff on the screen. What do I need to check is correct? Apologies again for my lack of knowledge.

Found this in an old thread:

Before you do it, make sure D2D recovery is enabled in the BIOS.

Put the disc in and then restart the pc, once restarted with the disc already in it will say press any key to boot from disc, press a key quickly as it only gives you a few seconds to respond, follow the instructions making sure you format the partition on the hard drive, no need to alter the partitions, just format the partition with ntfs format, after formatting it will say again to press any key to boot from disc, do not press any keys this time or you will be back to the start again , just follow all instructions carefully and you will be fine. after windows is reinstalled you will need to reinstall all the drivers for your pc, this will be another disc that you will have got with the pc.
