upgrading to Windows 7 64-bit

I have a asus Vx6 lamborghini edition netbook.

It just occured to me to upgrade the ram to 8gb since the new bios supports it.

But I am yet to install from HDD image till date.

My windows 7 install is 32-bit.

How can I install w7 64-bit on my pc. Does my Factory image support the option?

Create a bootable USB drive of Win 7 64-bit and use the key provided with your laptop since the key should work for both 32 and 64-bit installations and you should be good to go

1. Does that mean that I can forego the factory settings partition with all the apps and add ons (bloatware!!!)?

2. Is it possible to ask Asus to provide me with a 64-bit install? my pc is still under warranty.

PS: About the key, I have previously used a xp pirated edition to restore my official xp with key. That had been unsuccesfull. Can I expect a similar issue with 7?

1. Correct, you can skip the preinstalled software this way, you don't absolutely need it. You may want to have drivers downloaded to the same USB stick though since you'll need them after reformatting.

2. Not sure, you'll have to contact ASUS on that...More than likely they would want to charge you for shipping or something similar. Definitely wouldn't hurt to ask though

Since you have a key for Windows 7 Home Premium, you are restricted to that version of the OS, so you'll want to grab the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit link on that website I posted earlier

No need for that, the ISO's J.P linked to are just as good, or even the best IMO, since they're original Microsoft ISO's, can be used on any computer, and have no bloatware.
Make sure you download a version with Service Pack 1 integrated, also in my sig.

XP is much more picky with the install ISO version. If you don't have the install CD for XP you can either try to find one that works (which can be very hard). Or, you can use the C:/i386 folder and make an install CD out of that, however, this isn't well known, and most people have already deleted that folder when they realize they need a reinstall.


Windows 7 isn't like that, as long as you stay with the same version (Ultimate, Home Premium. . . ) you'll be fine.
Your key works with 32- and 64-bit editions, and you can use an ISO with a different language if you like.
A tip is to take a picture or write down the key, just in case the label gets damaged. I think the labels are better nowadays, but I've seen Vista labels with the text worn off.

I would use ABR beta to backup my windows activation as well. It will save you the trouble of activating it through the phone. A OEM windows 64-bit ISO would do the trick as well. Somehow, you have to go through the phone activation process if you install win 7 with a retail ISO and an OEM activation key. I suppose it would be the same the other way around.

As fas as Asus bloatware is concerned, you need the ATK package for the hotkeys to work but that's about it. I would also install the wireless console though, the rest is up to you.
