Unistallation of Antivirus software
hi, i have a dell desktop, and the mcaffe antivirus is bundled.
last year i uninstall my antivirus software from mcaffee with a dell logo (OEM version i suspect), and after i uninstall it, it seems there are traces of it left in my system, and the windows security centre said that mcafee is still installed (i forgot what the message was), after i install another antivirus (zonealarm) the windows still said that i've got mcaffe install!
do anyone here have the same problem? is this only happen with dell/mcaffe?
how about norton? (which is very popular nowdays)
thanks
edit:
oh btw, i already fixed this problem by reformating the computer, i just want to know is this happened to anyone else.Last edited by wobble987; 20th June 2006 at 02:50 AM.

Re: Unistallation of Antivirus software
did you restart your system after uninstallation of mcaffee? if not, then you may need to restart then install your new antivir.

You could use CCleaner, which will remove left over traces of the program. Google it...it's free too.

Re: Unistallation of Antivirus software
OOOOH! i did more than just restart, after i restart (of course) i registry clean it (using registry mechanic), then, after that failed, i clean out all the file containing mcafee in it, then i manually look for the registry. the thing is i thing is its still stuck! (this happened a long time ago, the problem is fixed via reformat. anyway, is this happened with anybody else? using dell or other brand? how bout different antivirus program?

Re: Unistallation of Antivirus software
Many of the more bloated AV software has this problem. Even if you use multiiple registry cleaners, there are usually still traces left. If possible, the only way to completely fix the problem would be to reformat the HD and reinstall windows. Otherwise, simply forget about it and use some other software. F-Secure and AVG are just two programs that have done it to me.

Re: Unistallation of Antivirus software
Certain versions of Norton are also notorious for their difficulty in completely removing all traces from a computer. I'm not too sure in regards to the current version though.
