Default Windows 7 - Can't find CD drive in my computer!! Asus G50vt-X5

I just got this laptop and i was playing with the programs that were pre installed on it. One of them being the Asus CopyProtect. In that I wondered what locking the drives would do so i locked the CD/DVD and now i can't find my cd/dvd drive in my computer. My device manager still shows it and there nothing wrong with it. I tried unlocking the driver but still nothing So please help!!!

Not having an Asus computer I can only offer a generic solution. Try to restore your system to a time and date before the problem occured.
Go to start, enter System Restore in the Search box and then click on System Restore when the program name comes up. Follow the instructions and be sure to check the box to "Show more restore points" on the second page of the system restore program if necessary.

Alternately, you would probably get more help if you ask this question in the Asus forum. Ask a moderator to transfer this thread over there.

Wonder if this is related to the upperfilters lowerfilters issue that was common with some cd burning software.

    Take a look here

The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that you upgraded to Windows Vista

    Fix:

    right click on my computer
    click on manage
    then click on storage
    then click on disk management
then right click on your device and select add letters and path

I am glad you fixed it.

From your description of what caused the problem that is that has got to be the last thing I would have checked, if I would have ever thought to check it.

I had a similar issue with my G50VT-X1. While playing DVDs the drive would disappear from the system and I'd have to do a CMOS reset to get it back.

I fixed that by upgrading the firmware on the DVD drive, so if you see further problems I'd recommend trying that (It's a specific to Windows 7 issue)
