Re: LEGAL Windows 7 Download Links (Just like Vista before!!!)
True, the 2GB download problem as mentioned in the thread that I cited only really addresses half of my issue. The strange happenings with the x64 ISO files crashing my internet connection when clicking on those links hasn't been so neatly explained. Obviously I equated the 2GB stall problem and the x64 ISO problem to being from the same source, which indeed may very well be erroneous. However, considering that I have I have tried clicking those links with multiple computers, using multiple browsers, and both wifi and LAN, I am fairly confident about jumping on board with accusations against my modem.
Your suggestion of testing the x64 ISO problem over some other connection is a wise one though. I may have to do that just to be extra sure. Thanks for that.
I'll try to remember to give updates on this issue as things progress.

Re: LEGAL Windows 7 Download Links (Just like Vista before!!!)
Problem Resolved:
Well, as indicated previously I sent an e-mail to a Qwest representative through the same channel as the individual on dslreports had (talktous@qwest.com) and received some amazingly quick and supportive service.
A knowledgeable Qwest tech called me earlier today in response to my e-mail, acknowledged that this specific modem (2Wire 2701HG-D) with this firmware version (QT04-6.1.5.48) has a known problem concerning the downloading of large files with a stall at 2GB. As this particular modem is a few years old and they are no longer supporting firmware updates for it, Qwest is sending me their newest modem by UPS for free. It should arrive by Friday.
Honestly I'm a bit blown away by the prompt and helpful service. I'm glad to be having this resolved without any money spent and not too much time wasted. Thumbs up to Qwest's "Talk To Qwest" service. Just in case anyone with similar issues stumbles upon this thread, the home portal for the service is Talk To Qwest - Qwest's social media portal.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help me out!

Re: LEGAL Windows 7 Download Links (Just like Vista before!!!)
Thanks for your feedback, deeastman.
Can you or other members possibly post the hashes for the two 64-bit ISOs here?
In my case,
X15-65805.iso:
MD5 - 7B7AF5FE3A01E9FD76DE4DACB45A796B
SHA1 - 50127304441A793EE51B3F501289F6599A559E9F
CRC32 - 502C42C1
The X15-65805.iso file I downloaded has a different size, namely
Size: 3.00GB (3,224,686,592 bytes)
Size on disk: 3.00GB (3,224,686,592 bytes)
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Re: LEGAL Windows 7 Download Links (Just like Vista before!!!)
I have the same hash as you for the X15-65805.iso.
Summary info for the X15-65805.iso file as downloaded:
File: X15-65805.iso (W7 Professional)
CRC-32: 502c42c1
MD4: c02269f95241160bd597530cb4f556d9
MD5: 7b7af5fe3a01e9fd76de4dacb45a796b
SHA-1: 50127304441a793ee51b3f501289f6599a559e9f
Size on disk: 3.00 GB (3,224,686,592 bytes)
Summary info for the X15-65733.iso file as downloaded:
File: X15-65733.iso (W7 HomePremium)
CRC-32: 56d954e4
MD4: 2ebb301e0ad66e88e55dc6b5fbbd497e
MD5: 758887088235024058d1c8eb6efb85a8
SHA-1: 336779ea6b65f63e11a609b4d021439c47ab315b
Size on disk: 3.00 GB (3,224,686,592 bytes)
Edit: The reason the hashes for the two downloads are different is that one file is W7 Professional and the other is W7 HomePremium. Once the ei.cfg file has been removed both files are equivalent.Last edited by deeastman; 24th September 2010 at 05:48 AM.

Re: LEGAL Windows 7 Download Links (Just like Vista before!!!)
Just want to say thanks for this post. Bought a few laptops recently that always come loaded with crap ware. Always like to wipe it completely clean. The ABR software to transfer your license is such a awesome little tool. The guide was also very easy to follow. Thanks again.

Re: LEGAL Windows 7 Download Links (Just like Vista before!!!)
The following MSDN downloads info page shows an X15-65805.iso with SHA1 and CRC32 hashes identical to deeastman's and mine.

Re: LEGAL Windows 7 Download Links (Just like Vista before!!!)
1. Run the .exe for your download as administrator (right click on it, then click "Run as Administrator" in the menu), wait for it to extract (If you get an error but still have the expandedSetup folder, check the number/filesize from this post - if you have all of the files, you can go ahead and continue to make the iso)
2. Once the 'Install Now' window appears, close it
3. You should have a folder called expandedSetup in the directory with the 3 downloaded files
4. Copy this folder to C:\
5. Go to C:\expandedSetup\sources and delete the file called ei.cfg , doing this will allow you to select the version you want at install (Pro, Ultimate, Home Premium etc.)
6. Download this file: RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting (also attached at the bottom of this post) extract it, and place it (oscdimg.exe) in C:\Windows\System32 (This file comes from the official windows 7 WAIK, it is called oscdimg.exe in case you were wondering)
7. Then, open a command prompt as administrator (type cmd into the start menu box then right click on cmd.exe and click "Run as Administrator") and run the following command:
oscdimg.exe -bC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com -u2 -h -m -lWIN_EN_DVD C:\expandedSetup\ C:\Win7.iso
-This will create an iso for windows 7 in your C drive, if you get an error, try typing in the command, not copy/paste
-Note, the character before WIN_EN_DVD is a lowercase L, not |
8. Burn the iso, boot it, and install (you can also put it onto a usb flash drive/hard drive using the microsoft tool to save a disc: https://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool )
I have done all the above, I am having difficulties trying to get it onto a disk as it either says disk isn't empty, or it copies and there just isn't anything on the disk when its done.
Is wins7.iso the thing I am meant to be putting on to a disk?
What I am wanting to do is do a clean install of windows 7, I am really not sure the best way to go about this, as I want to keep my laptops 'fatory settings' option just incase, does reinstalling W7 wipe that?

Re: LEGAL Windows 7 Download Links (Just like Vista before!!!)
You need to burn the iso using something like ImgBurn
As long as you dont touch the factory recovery partition, the data should remain intact, but you may lose the ability to access it and you'll need to fix it later. Does your computer allow you to make recovery DVDs?ThinkPad W520
