Default Getting A Laptop With Vista. Will I have problems with my "independent" programs?

    Hello,

I am getting a new laptop that is coming with Vista. Unfortunately all I've heard about Vista are horror stories, and bad comparability issues.

I run a lot of small programs: DVDShrink, SiteSpinner, FreeRip. Programs like that. Am I going to have lots of compatibility issues?

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

You will have problems with ripping softwares. Mine's didn't work with Vista. You can dual boot with XP just for this purpose.

The only programs that might have issues are the ones that need to interface with your hardware. These will typically require the installation of drivers, which need to be re-written for 64-bit systems.

Vista isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It works perfectly, especially after 1+ year of being out, with SP1 on its way. Most programs will work regardless of it saying it's vista compatible, if it doesn't, run it in compatibility mode. You barely need 1GB of ram for it, not the 2GB+ that people were saying before. You'll love it, don't worry.

All the lastest version should work no problems, hell, it has been out for over a year as we speak...... I didn't have any compatibility issues even during Beta 2 X64
