32 vs 64 bit Vista

Apart from the already obvious compatibility issues and the benefit of the 3.2 gb+ advantage of the 64 bit, etc, is there any other draw back of using the 64 bit OS compared to the 32? Like does it draw more system power to run the 64 instead? Or what are the other +'s and -'s? Just a bit fuzzy on the issue - thanks

i'm running it on my desktop at the moment and have no problems with it at all; the only issue i have had with it is when trying to install need for speed most wanted where it wouldn't detect the version of direct x correctly.

also firewall software can be a problem as i couldn't find any for ages.

There are some security benefits but I don't remember them off the top of my head. 64 bit should be technically more stable since it requires signed drivers.

but how does it preform in terms of system resources compared to the 32 bit?

i've not noticed any difference to be honest, although i do prefer it over 32-bit, i'm considering it for my notebook but i dont know whether i can be bothered to find all of the drivers for it.

i would say it should be more stable as it is based on server 2003

It is faster, more secure and more stable. And no, it does not consume more power then a regular 32bit Vista.

Oh and by the way, some applications might end up being slower when running in the 64bit OS.

64bit Vista is (like System64 said) faster & more stable. Not sure why it would be more secure though.

Most apps work under 64 bit, Damn near ALL the Major apps work. Some apps might have a minor flaw, most with right click menus. EX: Tugzip.

Vista updates has also detected all the right 64bit drivers for my hardware.

64bit has kernal mode protection. Any program that trys to acces the kernal must be digitally signed.

You can overide it via command prompt if you need to for 3rd party software/drivers that you know are safe.
