Default Need advice on what notebook I should buy.

I have narrowed my search to the following laptops:

    Sony Vaio VGN-c140/B $1,045.00

    Apple Mac Book 13" 2.0 GHZ $1,499.00

I have never used the Mac operating system therefore all other PC's in my home are running XP and all my existing software is XP based. I use my laptop primarily for Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, wireless internet surfing, making home DVDmovies and managing my music. I like the style of the Mac Book but the Sony closely resembles it. Specs seem to be about the same except for the operating system of which I think I like Mac's just a little more. So I guess the real decision is, is it worth converting to the Mac operating system or am I just signing up to spend more money on new software and peripherals?

I really would ppreciate anyone's thoughts and opinions on what I should do before I pull the trigger.

    Thanks

Have you seen the Sony C in the store? If so, I don't have a lot to add because I don't know much about macs. To me, the Sony is bulky looking and the screen isn't very bright. I wouldn't want to use it for video editing.

If you use a Word and Excel a lot, I'd say to stay with PCs.

Maybe you could fill out the FAQ and people would help you more. It seems like you are making your decision mostly based on looks, but it's hard to tell from your post.
Asus G1, Lenovo T400 (provided by work) and a Dell E6510 on the way.

I second that becuase if your price range is 1500 i am sure we can find some other laptops that might be suitiable for your needs unless you need a mac OS or 13 inch screen

Latitude D410. 6 years old notebook that did not have a built-in optical drive when built.

I actually disagree. Firstly you said you would use it primarily for Word, Excel, internet browsing, and media. All of which a Mac is fully capable of. I do not normally recommend Macs, but this might be a good idea in your case. Microsoft offers Mac versions of Word and Excel as well.

The only downside, however, is price. Since the Mac is about $450 more expensive, that is a deciding factor. You get what you pay for, though.

    Good Luck,
    Matt
