zentropa,
I'm not sure I'd base the purchase of a laptop on the internal sound card. Most laptops don't include 'stellar' sound cards. Just run of your mill audio...
However, Creative Labs is about release an Audigy2 ZS in a PCMCIA format card. See link below

This card will bring a new dimension in sound to laptop owners whom either, just like their 5.1 sound when playing games, or significantly improved audio for listening to digitial tracks. It WILL bring a new level of audio to notebooks. All for around $130.
No doubt it will be built-in to future notebook models.

If you look past the flashy superstore brands, there are other products for less money with better sound quality.

I'll get the Audigy2 ZS for Notebooks, mainly because I'm pleased with Creative's hardware overall (despite their lousy drivers!). Also, EAX Advanced HD support is a vast improvement for gamers like myself.
