Default Where can I find the best deal on lenovo x230

Having posted a thread and receiving your advice I have narrowed my search for a small portable laptop to the Lenovo X230. I plan to add or replace with SSD in future so would configure with a 320gb HDD. Also plan on the IPS screen. Have no idea if the backlit keyboard is worth the extra $'s.

My question is where can I find the best deal on this laptop. I started looking after the laborday sale and missed out there. I would like to receive the laptop by the 29th of September as I would take it with me overseas.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Justin

If you don't mind the X220, which you probably shouldn't, the best deals I've seen are in the Lenovo Outlet. That's if you don't mind the one year warranty. I saw a refurbed X220 with the i3 and IPS in the outlet week for $500ish and the i5 for $550ish. That'll be tough to beat from a value perspective, though some persistence may be require to get those deals. A little luck never hurts either.

    Thanks ZAZ,

I was leaning to the x230 because of the Ivy Bridge and thinking it would run a but cooler, but really I don't plan for any heavy lifting. Want something bigger than the 11.5" netbook book I am now traveling with. The netbook doesn't seem to cut it for Skype and I'm traveling more and find I am staring at the screen more so wanted to step up in size and viewing quality. The 12.5" X230 seemed to fit the bill. Want a fairly light, portable, upgradeable laptop.

Will take a serious look at the X220. The price is quite appealing. What I've found so far on the X230 is about $800.

    Cheers,
    Justin

Ivy Bridge runs a tad bit hotter than Sandy Bridge, actually.

Anyway, probably the best deal one either laptop would be to order it from Lenovo directly and haggling over the price while using the Barnes and Noble and email discounts.

The X220 has, by far, the better keyboard. The only problem about ordering from the outlet, however, is that you will never receive your unit by the 29th of September. For some reason, it takes Lenovo forever to ship their outlet products. Still, to save a few hundred bucks, it might be worth it. On the other hand, I just configured an I5-3210M, IPS X230 for $711.35 on the B&N site, but the sale is over tonight (keep looking, they have them going almost all the time). If you register, you can get an email discount that a rep may stack for you.

Thanks Guys for the help. There is a bit of lag in my replies as I live in Thailand.

Will sign up for B&N. So the idea is call to configure the laptop rather than do online and try to haggle the price down? Do I google for the discount codes or have to have them sent by B&N?

Is the backlit keyboard worth the expense?

    Regards,
    Justin

I don't know that I'd agree with that statement.

Thanks for the headsup about the outlet store. Would have been bummed if I had ordered and not received before taking off on the 29th.

Tried stacking but the rep said I could only use one coupon per order. Had the Barnes & Noble discount of 25% and tried with a ecoupon from Lenovo for signing up for their email. Is it hit and miss on the stacking?

    Regards,
    Justin

I think it's really hit or miss for the coupon stacking, a sales rep allowed me to stack the coupon since I told him it was my first time buying from Lenovo and that I was on a budget for school. Most of the time I think they stand pretty firm saying that they really can't beat the already good savings you're getting through the Barnes and Noble program. Good luck in your decision and I hope you're able to get a good deal on either the x220 or x230, both are wonderful machines!

Thanks for the suggestion. Since it will be my first purchase from Lenovo I will try your approach.

Any thoughts on the merit of getting the extended warranty. Looks like it is only good for one year without paying an upcharge.

    Cheers,
    Justin
