A laptop for a university student
Hey guys,
I'm really not familiar with the current laptop market, and, since I need one desperately (my old Inspiron 1520 is going to die any moment now), I am seeking help from you, more experienced users
Briefly, I will be using the laptop for university work (MS Office only, I'm not in computer design or any other kind of computer heavy stuff), some gaming (not much of a gamer), but mostly for web surfing and video playback.
The "What should I buy FORM" is here as follows:
What is your budget?
900 Euro
What country will you be buying this in?
Lithuania
What size notebook do you prefer?
Mainstream (15 - 16-inch screen)
What brands do you like or dislike?
Like: No specific preference
Dislike: Apple
Would you consider a refurbished laptop?
No
What are the primary tasks you need this notebook for?
Web Surfing, Office and Productivity Software, Listening to Music, Video Chat and Conference, Movie Streaming and Viewing, Graphic Intense 3D Gaming
What games will you be playing?
Battlefield 3, Crysis 2 (well, the popular ones). However, FullHD resolution and/or high graphics settings ar not really important (I'm happy with low or medium)
Where will you be using this laptop?
Will stay on desk
How many hours of battery life do you need?
3-4
Will you be buying online or in store?
online
Which OS do you prefer?
Windows 7
List the screen resolutions that interest you:
High Resolution (1600 x 900)
Max Resolution (1920 x 1080)
Do you prefer a glossy or matte screen?
Matte is fine
Is the laptops design important to you?
Yes
Approximately what date will you be buying this laptop?
Around 09/20/2012
How long do you want this laptop to last?
2-3 years
How much storage capacity do you need?
500 GB
Are you interested in SSD for storage?
Maybe
Do you want a built-in optical drive, what type?
DVD Burner
Thank you!!!

I'd see if there are any Clevo resellers that sell in your country. Some of the best bang-for-your-buck gaming laptops.

hmm HP dv6t quad has a quad I7, 650m, 1080p display. not sure what price point it comes at where you live.
sony vaio S15 has an IPS 1080p with a 640 LE which is good for moderate gaming.
the clevo are worth looking at but they tend to be big and heavy with poor battery performance, not sure if thats important to you.Sony S15

Re: A laptop for a university student
Thanks for replies guys, appreciated
) what about ASUS N56VZ? Seems reasonably priced for the components inside (5400rpm HDD is a bit of a downer though...)

Re: A laptop for a university student
hmm haven't seen one in person but if you read this review they say the CPU/GPU throttles back because they got too hot. personally i avoid laptops that cant handle their own heat output since that affects their longevity quite a bit.
