You're pretty much can only look at netbooks at this price point, or older refurbished business laptops.

Re: Need a new laptop for college, Recommendations?
A netbook is fine. Any recommendations? If it can handle Programming (C++, Python, etc), word processing, and general web browsing (Social Networking, Email, Forums, etc) then that's fine.
EDIT: I had a Medion Akoya E1222, and that worked very nicely. Something similar to that would be perfect. I was looking at an Acer Aspire One and they look quite suitable, what do you think? I'd like something "well known" since the reason for my discontinued use of my E1222 was due to the fact that NOBODY sells battery replacements for it..

The Aspire One is one of the two most well-known netbooks, followed by the Asus eeePC. It's a good choice, for sure. Assuming that prices are low enough, you could also consider a Thinkpad X120e, which is basically a business-class netbook with a beefier processor (E-350 vs Atom).
