Default Lightweight 13-14 laptop or ultrabook.

Hi, I am Sebastian from Argentina. I travel every year in November for work, every year I change my personal notebook. The last I had was a macbook air 13", in Argentina it costs twice than the US, I had an opportunity and I sold it last week (I also have a lenovo t420 from my work). In november I will be travelling to the US. I don't know what laptop to buy. The things it must have are:
    -Backlit Keyboard
-6 or more hours battery life.
    -llightweight (max 4lb)
-It would be great to have 8gb of ram.

Can I buy from online page from dell/lenovo/toshiba for example and send it to my hotel in boston (I don't have us credit card or ssn, and my credit card is international but the address is in argentina)?

    1) What is your budget?
    Max $1400 (I prefer)
    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
    Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen

    3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.
    US

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
    a. Like: Lenovo (thinkpad series)

    5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
    NO, only new.

    6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Web Surfing, Programming / Software Developing, Movie Watching (Netflix etc.), Office and Productivity Software.

    7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
    Both

    8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
    No.

    9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
At least 6 hours with wifi connected.

    10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?

I prefer buying in retail stores.

    11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

Win 7 or OSX are both fine.

    Screen Specifics

    12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer? Keep in mind screen size in conjunction with resolution will play a large role in overall viewing comfort level. Everyone is different. Some like really small text, while others like their text big and easy to read. Click here for Screen resolution information.

    1366x768, 1600x900 or 1920x1080.

    13) Do you want a Glossy/reflective screen or a Matte/non-glossy screen?

Prefer matte, but it's not a requirement.

    Build Quality and Design

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

    No.

    15) When are you buying this laptop?

In the second week of november.

    16) How long do you want this laptop to last?

    Notebook Components

    17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive?

    128gb ssd or 320gb hdd.

    18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD Burner, Blu-ray Reader or Blu-Ray Burner?

I'd rather not have optical drive.

Thanks in advance to everyone, and sorry for my english.

Check out the Gigabyte U2442N or U2442V. Its not officially released in the US but should be by the time you plan on making the purchase.

You've got a few problems. Most ultrabooks I've seen don't hit six plus hours of battery life. The Air is one of the best at six hours. Most ultrabooks are too thin for to allow for batteries large enough to hit six hours. I think the HP Folio is the best ultrabook for battery life, but that has a glossy screen. Most ultrabooks come with 4GB of memory that's soldered to the board and not upgradeable. It'll be tough to get one with 8GB within your budget. It'll be though to get a ThinkPad form a store as they're mostly sold on-line in the US. For that you'll need a US Bank issued credit card or American Express card with a US address on file before Lenovo will ship it. I don't know, maybe the Carbon X1 will show up in a store since it's a more consumerish notebook. Good luck and welcome to NBR.

Thank you both for the responses.
The 8gb of ram is not a requirement but it will be nice.
I am looking toward asus ux31a. Also I am wondering if I could buy through apple store a mba with 8gb of ram (customizing it) for a friend who also asked me for one. (I don't have us credit card, just international credit card from argentina, I would prefer to pick up an apple store)

You might be able to find a UX31A in a store and it's got a very nice screen, but it doesn't have a great keyboard and I've heard of quality control issues with the Asus. An Apple Store might have an Air with 8GB, but I don't know what payments they accept.

I would be surprised if Amazon would ship to a hotel, even if the accept a foreign credit card, but you'll probably have ask them on that one. Whether there's a Sony store or Microcenter nearby depends on where you end up. I don't know if they'll take a foreign credit card. Again, you'd have to ask them.

I know for sure, that most stores accept foreign credit cards, but I don't know online. I will have to ask for sure.
    Thanks anyway.
Still don't know what notebook to choose.
