Default Lenovo Y580 or Sager NP9130 or NP9150?

Which would you get for gaming?

Mostly I'm looking for a laptop that can play some newer games like Diablo III without overheating and locking up/restarting on me.

Are there other mid-range or comparable laptops that I should consider?

Y580 can play D 3 without problem according to the users reviews under the lenovo/IBM subsection here.

It depends on your budget, I believe there is around a 200-300 price grasp between them. (Assuming getting the sager with 7970m )

    Also look at MSI offers.

If Diablo III is all you will play then the Y580 will be good enough. But if you want to play more graphics intensive games or want something more future proof I would go with the NP9150 configured with a 7970m if you can afford it.

Diablo III and Starcraft II are all I play right now. I'm not a huge gamer but I want a machine that's not going to have overheating issues when playing games. I figure if it can handle games it can handle anything I want to do.

Is the 7970m one of the best notebook graphics cards available right now? I guess I was looking more at the Nvidia cards. Budget wise I can afford it if it's really going to make a difference. It's just a matter of if I want to spend less and upgrade sooner or spend more and try to keep this one for 4 years before upgrading again.

Sounds like the Sager is more favored if I get the better grap

The 7970m is pretty much the second best mobile graphics card out right now, the 680m from nvidia is the best out there but its not much better than ati's 7970m.

From my point of view it's more like Asus G55VW versus NP9150.

Asus is more lap friendly with less heat and noise. But it's a pain to change something in it.

Sager/Clevo can have better hardware and almost anything is accessible. 7970 still has some software problems, but they should be fixed.

I didn't like the Lenovo, very very noisy under heavy load and not lap friendly at all.

The software issue is with the new second generation switching tech. from AMD called ENDURO which makes a hash of the user experience. Disable it and, I believe you are good to go. I don't see any driver issues concerning game-play. A comparison of the 7970M and the 680M is available from Notebookcheck.

But if you are looking for some mid range gaming performance, then the GT650M and the GTX660M may not be bad options at all. Laptops should cost around the $1200 mark, inclusive of all taxes.
