Right now, I have the U310 and it's wouldn't make for a good gaming laptop. It's a thin, lightweight laptop that focuses on thin and pretty, so it doesn't have the cooling required to handle long gaming sessions. Also, it has no DVD drive. Not to mention that it's 1366*768 only.

The Y580 and the NP6165 are both great laptops for what you want to do with them, though you'll also need to factor in the cost of a Win7 disc with the Sager (no OS by default). Though if you don't plan on buying any newer games, you could check out other notebooks with the Intel HD 4000, such as the T530 you mentioned.

He mentioned that he doesn't need an optical drive. From the benchmark that I posted, it seems the HD 4000 is pretty good in handling some popular games.
So how hot it gets when you try to play games on it?

Haven't played any games on it yet, though I'm about to wrap up my review. I could take my external DVD player and include the results, if interested.

I typically go on long gaming session so decent cooling.

I want to run Battlefield 3 on low (not Battlefield)
Optical drive is of no concern to me

With the Lenovo and Sager you mentioned, you should easily be able to play BF3 at 1080 at medium at the very least, and high without AA.
