Thinking about getting a good gaming laptop
I was advised by a friend of mine that Sager laptops are pretty good and cheap, and have considered it. But I also want other opinions.
- What is your budget?
$1500 MAX (Tax, shipping, etc. included) - What size notebook would you prefer?
15" only - Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.
XTOIC and any other places suggested; America - Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Sager is the main one my friend suggested. Other brand suggestion is acceptable. - Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
No - What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Playing games and Programming - Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
Both - Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
Currently, just League of Legends. In the future, though maybe a bit more graphics intensive ones. - How many hours of battery life do you need?
I think this question is a bit misleading. I would like to be able to watch a 2 hour movie on it when it is fully charged without needing to recharge it again. - Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
I would like to see it. - What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
Windows OR none; preferably none because they are cheaper. - From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer? Keep in mind screen size in conjunction with resolution will play a large role in overall viewing comfort level. Everyone is different. Some like really small text, while others like their text big and easy to read. Click here for Screen resolution information.
Maximum Resolutions I guess? Mid-range isn't bad either. - Do you want a Glossy/reflective screen or a Matte/non-glossy screen?
N/A - Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Somewhat. - When are you buying this laptop?
Some time this month. - How long do you want this laptop to last?
I am hoping about 3-5 years. - How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive?
120GB, SSD. - Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD Burner, Blu-ray Reader or Blu-Ray Burner?
It is not necessary

I would suggest alienware m14x for your wants and price range.
Can't say either way on sager as I've never owned one.

Re: Thinking about getting a good gaming laptop
I would recommend the Sage NP9150 over the M14x here any day of the week. For right around $1500, you can get a rig with the AMD 7970m, which absolutely crushes the Nvidia 650m. Also, it comes stock with a quad core 3610qm processor, 8gb RAM, and a 1080p screen. The 7970m alone warrants the recommendation over the M14x.
Mythlogic Nyx 1712 P-170em, i7-3720qm, 680m, Samsung 830 256GB, 16GB RAM, 90% NTSC Color Gamut Screen.
Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13, i5-3337u, 128GB + 256GB Crucial M4 mSata, 8GB RAM

Re: Thinking about getting a good gaming laptop
I personally would avoid Alienware stuff because of the fact that I heard they overprice their products.
As for the NP9150, when I start to customize it it goes above $1500, which is above my budget.
Edit: I forgot to mention, $1500 is my budget being WITH tax and all. So if I got a laptop that is > 1400... it will cost > 1500 with tax.

Re: Thinking about getting a good gaming laptop
The other thing I want to ask is, will there be a GPU coming out soon that is better than the GT 650M and GTX 670M?

Re: Thinking about getting a good gaming laptop
LOL. I think everybody is overpricing their products. Question of demand. Alienware is mentioned everywhere as one of the best gaming laptops although I read that their service is not that good. In your price range there are some pretty good once. I do not know about Sager. But if your friend is recommending this is must be a good option to consider. Standard warranty and return policy and ofcourse service is important. I mean if you are not satisfied you should get your money back.

Re: Thinking about getting a good gaming laptop
Well, perhaps I'm doing something wrong but the end price I'm getting is $1,519.00. I know it's just $19, but still.
I also noticed the NP 9130 that can be customized to have similar specs. If they had such similar specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, Hard drive [SSD]), is there a reason NP 9150 would maybe be better than 9130?

Re: Thinking about getting a good gaming laptop
The NP9150 has a backlit keyboard, compared to the 9130. Other than that, there isn't that much of a difference to my knowledge. Also, to answer your question about better GPU's than the GT650M and GTX670M, we already have them. The GTX 660M is between teh GT650 and GTX670M. It's based on the new Kepler tech and is more "efficient" you could say. The GTX 670M is basically last year's 570M overclocked. Above that you have the GTX 675M, which is last year's 580M overclocked. And then. . .you get to the AMD 7970M. This GPU is just amazing, let me say. Every game (Except for The Witcher 2 with Uber Sampling I think. . .what does Uber Sampling even do?) can be run at the highest resolution with everything maxed out. Your other option is the GTX 680M by Nvidia, which has similar performance, but an absurd upgrade price.

Current laptops: Lenovo Ideapad y470. i7 2630QM, 500 HD 5400 RPM, 8 GB, Nvidia Geforce Gt 550M
Received: Sager Np8130. i7 2670QM, 500 HD 7200 RPM, 8 GB, Full HD Matte, Nvidia Geforce GTX 560M 1.5MB Gift to my friend, who loves it
Wanting MSI GT60
