should I consider buying an hp pavilion dv6?
hi guys, I want to buy a laptop that should fit as a desktop replacement... and i've got my eyes on the pavilion dv6 for it specs, low price, and mainly being available because I have no way to purchase online... I don't know the exact model name, just the specs :
i7 2.2ghz 2670qm
8gigs of ram
amd 6770m 1gb as a graphical card
1 tb of harddrive(and i'm aware that it's just 5400tr/min)
altec lansing (no beats)
so, these specs seem nice, and the price is good (just in case of comparing to something else).. and this is what makes it suspecious !
now i never heard something good about hp and surely the pavilion series, but I, myself never tried their products! so what I'm asking is how much time pavilion usualy takes to die, cuz i had an acer which was able to pull a 30 months, and still hate him though... I will be using this thing for some demanding activities (mainly 3d). and I think from the specs side it's fine.. but will it die if i kept using it for like long hours, over long periods.
by the way I want to ask about the overheating thing. when the fan is working and making loooud noises, is it safe to let it do his job and ignore, or it's an alert that my motherboard will be a cooked after seconds?
sorry about the long post but I think that's a real shame some companies make laptops to last and others make 'em to die after a short period....
btw thanks for any response !

You say the price is good, but you don't say what the price is. $300? Of course! $1300? Absolutely not. Somewhere in the middle, which it probably is? Well, tell us, and we'll tell you how good of a deal it is.
It would probably also help if we knew what country you were in, and if you filled out the form.

Re: should I consider buying an hp pavilion dv6?
yeah thanks, I'm from morocco (mostely people here buy from local stores)...
The price is 1294 usd(just converted). I know this is not the best price but it's just the best deal i could find!
I'm mainly asking because i want to know how reliable is hp pavilion... and about the form I don't have a big choice cuz either I take this product or i trade specs for reliability :
here are my 'other' options :
- lenovo b560 (half the price but it has an intel hd which is a pain)
- toshiba p755(nearly 2/3 of the price)
- hp elitebook 8440p (same price but this thing seem to be a bit old)
there are other options but for the time being I consider those as my second choices cuz the companies behind them seem reliable ...
so please is there any chance of that hp lasting for reasonable amount of time or is it better to sacrifice the specs for now?
and I apreciate any input in advance...

Re: should I consider buying an hp pavilion dv6?
ok here is the form!
-----------------------------
1) What is your budget?
not sure but 1300 $ is max ..
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
I always had an 15" and I think they are enough! but if I could get more i'll surely do
3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can
select the flag of your country as an indicator.
morocco
4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any
you really don't like?
I don't hate any brand, the only laptop that I had was acer...
5) Would you consider laptops that are
refurbished/redistributed ?
I want something new.
6) What are the primary tasks will you be
performing with this notebook?
daily things done with a notebook + photo editing + 3d modeling....
7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to
different places, leaving it on your desk or both ?
both, but the often the desk. so no problem about the weight?
8) Will you be playing games on your notebook?
If so, please state which games or types of
games?
I don't game a lot, but i play thing like gta IV, nfs..and i'm planning to try battlefield3.
9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
it's not a problem, 2 hours is good!
10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks
you're considering before purchasing it or
buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is
OK?
i wish i could buy it online, and see it before.
11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or
Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
I can use both linux and windows so anything is fine(it just need to have good drivers in case of the two systems) but I think i'll get a pc with windows7 since i may need it and i don't think there is an easier way to get a legal copy as for now
Screen Specifics
12) From the choices below, what screen
resolution(s) would you prefer? Keep in mind
screen size in conjunction with resolution will
play a large role in overall viewing comfort level.
Everyone is different. Some like really small text,
while others like their text big and easy to read.
Click here for Screen resolution information.
not a matter as long as I don't get something which wastes the 17'' for less than full hd dimensions
13) Do you want a Glossy/reflective screen or a
Matte/non-glossy screen?
just what would be the best for the eyes!
Build Quality and Design
14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness
important to you?
who cares!
15) When are you buying this laptop?
soon
16) How long do you want this laptop to last?
Notebook Components
2 years,..
17) How much hard drive space do you need;
80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive?
i was able to live with a 150 gb but i think i may need more now. for ssd i like to cuz i'd hate an unplanned driver failure but better not those things are expensive
18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD
Burner, Blu-ray Reader or Blu-Ray Burner?dvd burner yes, blu-ray not really .
