    Oy, that is very outside of my range lol. Would something ~$1,700 give me something that is strong and somewhat future-proof; lasting me a good 5+ years?

    It'll last you 5+ years physically with no problems if you take care of it.

    It'll go obsolete in usually less than 2 years.

    I wouldn't say it will be obsolete in 2 years. My NP9262 is only just reaching functional obsolescence for gaming now (about 4 years after purchase), and for basic office and web stuff, it's still more than capable. Just realize you'll have to set your graphics settings lower and lower each year in new games.
