Laptop for College w/ Occasional Gaming
So far I've picked out a few possible ones
But I have all summer to decide so I thought I'd ask you guys for help
Budget is $800-1200 I guess
Something portable is awesome, like less than 5 pounds, doesn't have to be an ultrabook
Battery life is good too
I don't plan on all day gaming every day, but the GW2/Diablo 3 Here and there on decent settings would be good, So dedicated GPU is good too
Screen doesn't matter too much, around 15" I guess
Right now this is my top choice
ASUS U46SM-DS51 - XOTIC PC - 14.1" ASUS Notebook
But they also have it at Walmart so probably going to get there since free shipping + can use Uncle's 10% Discount
I wish it had a better screen resolution though
I heard Asus is coming out with new Ultrabooks this summer that are suppose to have 1080p screens and dedicated GPUs so IDK if I should wait until then
TY if you guys have any criticism on those notebooks or suggest one of your own

Re: Laptop for College w/ Occasional Gaming
Amazon lists the 15" Series 7 at 5.04 pounds. Maybe that's close enough.
It has a 900p screen and an AMD 6750M.
[edit]
The Sony SE 15" might also bee worth a look with a 6630 and a 1080p screenLast edited by lowlylowlycook; 29th May 2012 at 10:09 AM.

Re: Laptop for College w/ Occasional Gaming
Thanks I'll check it out. Might be too bulky for my taste
I've been hearing that MSI has this new one out called an GE60?
Wondering if that would be better
Me or the guy above?:P
I like the screen a lot on both, but the ram/processor/hdd could be better on the sony imo
& Read the reviews for the Samsung and said it was hard to upgrade the hdd? idk
Thanks for the suggestions

Re: Laptop for College w/ Occasional Gaming
Try looking at the Envy 4t or Envy 6t from HP. Mine will be coming in a couple days, and it looks like it's a very good laptop for your needs.

Re: Laptop for College w/ Occasional Gaming
Keep in mind that with the Samsung and the Sony you'll get better aesthetics and the emphasis on portability that is crucial if you will plan to move the laptop around a lot. People here are really quick to point out the Sagers, Clevos, and other gaming laptops. These laptops are meant for pure specs and for gaming. The specs will pop out at you but they are bulky, ugly, and generally not as portable and there are no tests on their durability.
If gaming is not your #1 priority, I'd say the Samsung and Sony are decent choices. I can't speak for the Samsungs, but I know Sony's Vaio laptops generally are on the light side and have great build quality, great screens, and great to use overall.

If you have a whole summer, better don't hurry. Decide what you need exactly, but don't hurry with the exact model. Make some reviews of 14" laptops, compare them with 15.6 inch laptops.
Compare Mac OS X with Windows, decide what is better for you. Think of the graphics card, do you need an external one?
Good luck!Using a Macbook 13" for web design and college purposes.
