    Hi, looking for a budget laptop for the following:
    web surfing, email, youtube.
    video editing from camcorder
    video capture from xbox to edit and post on youtube.

    this is for a friend. I think he will be using adobe or sony vegas or similar.

    Your friend will not be satisfied with those specs for video editing. Especially using Sony Vegas.

    Since most new video cameras now do high def video or AVCHD he will need a high end computer just to edit that. Plus the largest screen he can afford. Nothing less then 17" as he will use all of that and more in Vegas. And two hard drives are recommended for video editing. One for the source and one for the renders. If he doesn't want to wait all night for a render then he needs a discreet video card. See the Sony site for recommended cards.

    I agree, but some people are just too cheap to listen.
