    OK........

    Max out an Alienware with dual AMD 7970s, dual 512GB SSDs in raid and every other conceivable upgrade and you'll still be under budget.....I think.

    Try p270 with 3960x or some xeon and max all option, should easily eat out the budget.

    serious though, probably decide if you want a
    workstation model(offer the best screen and service) or
    alienware(best gaming and good service)
    clevo based(max power but less complete service)
    Dell M6600 : DIY RGB LED IPS / i7-2670QM / M8900 / HyperX3K 120GB / 26GB DDR3 1333 / Mass slots which I don't know what to do with. ll U2711 U2312HM DIY LP173WF3(SL)(B1) B156HW01 v7
    HP DV6z DV6t Asus K53TA Lenovo T61 G530 Dell Vostro1500
    Playback: LAV -> ffdshow raw(deband/lsfmod) -> madvr(jinc3 AR)

    I've never heard of a brand called "Open".

    Also, are you a neurosurgeon? 5k is a big budget.

    Well, $5K isn't unheard, given that that is my budget too...

    In fact, I was pretty set with a MYTHLOGIC Nyx 7212 (Clevo P270WM) with a bunch of upgrades (i7-3930K processor, dual GTX 675 cards, others) - that is, until the delays from Clevo. Now I'm back to square one

    I *want* to convince myself to go with Alienware, but I just can't do it; I went that way once already, with unhappy results.

    Amazon.com: MSI Computer G Series GT70 0NC-011US 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories

    get this the graphics card isnt amazeing but you can upgrade to amd 7970 or to nvidia gtx 680m without voiding the warranty and you can add another 16gbs of ram if you really want to and in the end youl get a beast machine for under 3k anyway its just my suggestion.

    You want a 3-year long running and reliable stable running laptop for that money? Then consider the Sager NP9170, and configure/customize away!

    Wow a 5k budget

    with it u can easily go to mythlogic shiva 7212 and have intel core -3930k and nividia quadro 4000m installed into your laptop... however i dont really see a point in building such a beast unless you are using multiple monitors frequently
