Really? i saw great reviews at cnet, notebookcheck and engadget, the bad point was just 2 usb 3.0, and low res screen.

i don't want to jump the gun, but i think i may have come across an almost perfect laptop for this thread:
Asus announces 15-inch Zenbook U500VZ with Nvidia graphics and full numpad | The Verge

while it is 15inch, i wouldn't be surprised if it will share the same dimensions and weight as a lot of 14 notebooks
    Dell Inspiron 1520 Ruby Red
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7300
    3GB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2
    160GB 5400RPM
    256MB NVIDIA 8600M GT
    15.4" (1440x900)
Windows Vista Home Premium / Windows 7 Ultimate
    OS X 10.5.2

and according to expetrreviews, the model with 8gb ram / 2 ssd's and the gt650 will be costing around 2000pounds / 3200usd/ 2500euro, so even more expensive than the retina macbook pro, don't know if "just" a gt650 in a small notebook is worth that much money

i guess they got the information at the event where the u500 was showed to them? and if you look at the prices of the 13.3" zenbooks and the hardware they have in it, the price expertreviews mentions is no big shock actually

I see the Acer M5 availability in the OP is still not updated.
Acer 4820TG - i5-480m, HD 5650 - $675 - two and half years old, starting to feel old, maybe just need an SSD

Possible upgrades - LG 900p screen, Momentus XT

    Next laptop (2013?): 14" 900p screen, BR-RW, ATI 8xxx series dGPU w/ 2GB GDDR6 ram, 6-core AMD or Haswell, 8GB DDR4 ram, 1 TB SSD, 6 MP 1080p webcam, Lightpeak + USB 3.0, 16 hrs battery, <4 lbs

Full review of a preview unit Asus U500: Asus Zenbook U500 - an in-depth preview - Seems like a well rounded package with only one relevant flaw: Heat .. there are even signs of throtteling (dont forget, preview unit), but this would be pretty much a dealbreaker for me .. now waiting for the new Lenovo .. dualGPU or fan replacement for module bay sounds awesome
