Maybe when the 3rd Gen. dual-core 22nm Ivy Bridge CPUs come out, Acer will put one of those and an nVidia 650M GT 28nm Kepler (or something close) into their TimeLineX AS-3840TG.
I still have the 3820TG with an i3-370m and an AMD 5650M and it seemed to pack the most power into the smallest laptop possible at the time 2 years ago. 8+ hours of battery life too. Auto-switching of the integrated and dedicated GPUs was based on whether it was on AC or battery power. I never had heat/throttling issues, though some have apparently.
They still have a 3830TG with a 2nd Gen i5 and a 540M GT available for around $600 currently, which is a steal too.Current: Clevo P370EM3 i7-3630QM GTX 680M SLI 3D Vision Driver Installation & Win7 Optimization ║ Acer TimelineX 3820TG i3-370M 5650M

Re: Thin and Light 11-14 notebooks gaming worth compendium
the 3820tg didnt have throttling issues, the 3830tg on the other hand is a heat trap, although I do like the design a lot more, the throttling is just terrible.
Im hoping that the 3840tg is going to be one cool machine, but I havent heard any news so far regarding that

Re: Thin and Light 11-14 notebooks gaming worth compendium
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to make an informed purchase. My understanding is that a ssd cache will cache frequently used applications and make overall preformance a little better. Could someone elaborate on that( for example how much better than a standard 5400rpm HDD is it)?

this can vary from 0% to something very noticeable.

Re: Thin and Light 11-14 notebooks gaming worth compendium
I am thinking I'm just gonna settle for the m14x. Don't particularly want to but it's the only option that seems to nail serious power in a 14" package, even if it's a little bulky. I'd love the Y480 or one of the Sony models instead but I don't think they'll get the screen/cooling right.

Re: Thin and Light 11-14 notebooks gaming worth compendium
I don't buy that, it's all relative. No question it's super bulky for a 14" but bigger than 15" machines is a stretch to me. I'm sure there are some lighter 15" out there, but the dimensions on those are usually bigger.
Anyway, I just don't see a viable alternative in a 14" or less body with that much power and good cooling/screen.HP Envy 15: Intel Core i7-3610QM | 1GB Radeon HD 7750M GDDR5 | 8GB 1600 DDR3 | Samsung 830 256GB SSD | 1920x1080 Radiance IPS Screen
