Asus N56 or Hp DV6t?
I like them both. If I did the Asus I would get it from Xoticpc because of the abundance of customization options there. The way I see it, the HP has the advantages of being cheaper and a half pound lighter (I'm going to college next year), and it has DDR5, but the Asus has better build quality and (at least with options on Xotic) overall better specs. I also like that they will do a clean install.
750gb 7200rpm hard drive
8 or 12gb RAM
i7-3720QM
1920x1080 (another advantage of the Asus: matte screen)
64gb cache SSD (for Asus only)
Suggestions? Thanks!

- The HP's 1920x1080 display is matte as well, so the ASUS isn't the only one out of the two with matte.
- Don't get 12GB of RAM unless you ave a particular need.Dell Precision M4400 - QX9200 | 15.4" 1920x1200 RGBLED | Quadro 770M | 4GB | 500GB | 7 Pro

Ok, so 8gb RAM. Based on other things (especially build quality, durability, and overall reliability), what would be a stronger choice?

The N56 has a GDDR3 GPU and that's a no go for a 1080p screen. Not sure on the HP, if that's GDDR3 as well, then you might want to widen your search.

Re: Asus N56 or Hp DV6t?
The HP is GDDR5, but again, my worry is that its build quality won't be up to par with others like it.
EDIT: If neither of these are good options, does anyone have any other suggestions? Anything with Ivy Bridge, under 6lbs weight, max 15.6" screen, and good build quality is a go.Last edited by Ignimbrite; 3rd May 2012 at 12:11 AM.

Tell us your budget. I'm looking for similar laptops right now.
Clevo p151em or p150em, lenovo y580, samsung series 7, hp envy 15, and a few more. Might need to wait for the refresh on some of those as well.

For budget, let's say 2.2K max, although lower is obviously preferable. Also, as mentioned before it's important to me that the weight is kept under 6lbs, as I'm gonna be lugging this around campus for the next few years (yes, I'd also like it to last :]).

You might want to call up xotic asap. They are the ONLY site showing gddr5 and its highly unlikely only they have that version. Xotic had several typos on their new ivy bridge components for the sager models. I wouldn't doubt they had another typo.

Re: Asus N56 or Hp DV6t?
Asus is known for their bad screens, like on the N53 and N55, the DV6 did better in the last gen. Another notebook worth considering is the upcoming dell xps 15 (l521x), it is supposed to be out on sale in june but it will only have a gt640, if you want to do some gaming i wouldn't go for the Dell though.
