Re: Lightweight Gaming - 13"-14" IVB+650M Machines?
The Clevo 11.6" (which all of these are) only come with DDR3 not GDDR5. GDDR5 does improve performance but for 1366x768, the GT 650m with DDR3 will suffice for quite some time.
I believe the DDR3 was used over GDDR5 because of power draw. It seems at full load the 90W power supply is teetering at capacity.
Although it would have been nice to see a 13" version with GDDR5. Maybe when the 660m gets closer to release they will surprise us with a 13" with GT 660m with GDDR5 and a 120W power supply.

Re: Lightweight Gaming - 13"-14" IVB+650M Machines?
for me the clevo would be a clear order, I would just have sold my mbp in a heartbeat and get one, if they came in:
13'' - 900p or 1080p
RAM - 2 slots
Decent mid range gpu (gt 650m and 7770m comes to mind)
2.5'' slot
7-10 hours of battery life
Weight 1.8kg or lower
Measurements, something like the mbp, dont care that much about thinness though
If they could just basically expanded the chassis a little, put a good screen in there, I would have bought it. Instantly when it came out

Well the W110ER is all that but the screen.

Re: Lightweight Gaming - 13"-14" IVB+650M Machines?
exactly. I only use 2 pcs a day, the desktop from work and my laptop. And while at work I use my laptop. I dont hook it up or have a station for it in my house, since Im not in my house all day, and only will be there to sleep.
So for me a 13'' is perfect in terms of size and weight, it offers me reasonable power.
Tried several 13'' last year, vaio Z2, vaio Z1, vaio SA, there was always something amiss, build quality, keyboard, and in the end just kept my mbp, the battery life, touchpad and build quality on me over. Should have tried the x220 though, its still on my list.
on a second thought, I would probably complain a lot about the keyboard.

It would be nice to have the capital money to create the "NBR Special" laptop spec'ed as we've been discussing. The Clevo 11.6" gives me hope though that a 13" with everything we desire is a definite possibility, it's just having a manufacturer deciding to put it all together.

Re: Lightweight Gaming - 13"-14" IVB+650M Machines?
LG did a pretty good job, the problem was the screen res. The p330 had all that I wanted but the screen.
Sony SA was also a good try, but the keyboard and the build quality were not what I was expecting.
The e320 had all that, and the e420s as well, but the res, it packed the same guts as the vaio SB with the 6630m.
They are getting there. or I hope so.
As you can see the problem is that we are living in the wrong side of the globe, the orient has a more portable with power approach than the west. Specially if you look at what the koreans and japanese prefer in terms of notebooks. Those notebooks were primarily developed by and for the orient market, not to mention released first there or only there.

True, they seem to get the better screens and overall better/balanced spec machines. I don't know why the screens are so horrible in the West though. I mean EVERY 1366x768 screen is just horrendous. Best is a 45% gamut with like 35 deg viewing angles and 300:1 contrast. I mean come on, really?

Re: Lightweight Gaming - 13"-14" IVB+650M Machines?
and that is also another thing that made me keep the mbp, although the res is quite low, the screen is really above average.
It didnt touch the Z2 screen or Z1 for that matter, it was simply superb.
Loved the z2, the problem with it was that it was a ultraportable without the sturdiness that I expect from it, seriously Im not rough on my machines, but I thought it would always break when I was commuting. The trains here are quite crowded. And I hate cars in cities as a principle.
