Re: Time to retire the old core 2 duo, I want some balance and quality in my new notebook kind of like my previous but MORE
A Vaio SA could be good because of you're battery life requirement: Newegg.com - SONY VAIO SA Series VPCSA41FX/BI Notebook Intel Core i5 2450M(2.50GHz) 13.3" 4GB Memory DDR3 1333 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW AMD Radeon HD 6630M
You could definitely get more power if you wanted to sacrifice some battery life though.

A little weak for my tastes, I want something that will double the performance of my current laptop namely
-quad core cpu
-12000 3dmark06 score
but I will swap in a ssd myself, blu rays are now irrelevant so forget that. Capacitative touch screen is very important because it will support windows 8 metro interface

Take a look at the Dell Latitude E6420 which can be customised with 900p and a touch screen. Memory can be upgraded to 16GB and you can slide out the DVD module and add a second HDD if that appeals. Battery can also be configured - 4, 6 or 9 cell.
