I have come across the G75VW which comes with a gtx 670M and i7-3610QM ,8 gigs of ram - and it is listed at 1400 - would this laptop be a good choice?

I think most people would direct you to the Sager 9150.

Re: Laptop for Diablo 3 - maxed out settings
Agreed, the Sager 9150 out of the box fulfills all of your requirements without paying for a single upgrade, that will run you ~$1275 at most resellers atm. I would wait until after Sunday though, for an IB processor; that should give you *slightly* longer battery life (~15min) and give you a very slight performance upgrade, increasing the lifespan of the laptop.
If you're solidly focused on Asus, though: I'd just check out their offerings around your price range with your desired screen sizes. A quick glance suggests that the "ASUS N55SL-DS71" fits your specs, which is ~$1250; though again I'd advise you to wait the week or two for IB units. Also, that Asus' graphics are already getting a little dated, though you should be fine for D3 and GW2.
Poke around a bit, pick out what you like, and don't hesitate to come back and ask more questions! Happy Hunting!

Re: Laptop for Diablo 3 - maxed out settings
I'm looking to buy the NP9150 too, but will I have it with me by the date the OP lists, as I'll be leaving the country soon? I will be ordering as soon as the Ivy Bridge processors are listed on the resellers' websites. What about the delivery time of the Asus G55VW or the MSi GT60?

Re: Laptop for Diablo 3 - maxed out settings
Many people recommend sager as it looks like the best bang for your buck, but what I have heard is they are noisy laptops - is this true?
I am more or less stuck between the g75vw and the sager 9150 (with an ivy). would a gtx 670M run d3 on the best settings no prob?
Thoughts?

Re: Laptop for Diablo 3 - maxed out settings
Dunno, check the performance of the 570m, they are the same card anyway.
And with your budget I would get the 675m at least
Depends on the gpu, if you want the 7970m nobody knows, if you want the 675m next week, granted you are going to be losing a lot of performance

Re: Laptop for Diablo 3 - maxed out settings
what engine does it use ( sorry I dont game much )
but if you ask slickdude80 he may try it for you or something similar as he has been very nice at trying to accomadate requests. I know for Witcher, crysis 2 and one other the 7970's framerates were faster than 580s in SLI. and it seems to be 45-105% faster in everything hes tried sofar ( over 6990/580/675 ).
do remember his drivers are hacked together so official drivers should be faster... how much we dont know
