Re: Work/Gaming laptop soon
I am thinking I may be leaning that way. It seems the 7970M is out at the end of May... so it should fit nicely with my timeframe. Next, I will be perusing reviews etc. of disk imaging software (some of the larger SSDs sold on Newegg come with a cable and software.. I want my current to image over).
Thanks again everyone for the help thusfarlenovo T400... T9400 C2D, 8GB G-Skill PC3-8500 RAM,256GB SSD Crucial M4 boot + 750GB WD Black in UltraBay, Win 7 64-bit Pro, WXGA+ LED backlit (1440x900) w/ cam, bluetooth, integrated graphics

Re: Work/Gaming laptop soon
What about the Samsung Series 7 Gamer laptops? I see a 17.3 well specced out for 1900. Supposed to be Ivy Bridge now, and 7970M end of month(?)
I saw one (not sure of the specs, the 15.6 model I believe) at BestBuy. On one hand, going and buying off the shelf is cool for the instant gotta have it. But, I am hesitant to buy from BestBuy. I wish we had a Microcenter here (I miss Columbus). I was happy with a Vaio I got from there.
Maybe I am ovethinking this thing...lenovo T400... T9400 C2D, 8GB G-Skill PC3-8500 RAM,256GB SSD Crucial M4 boot + 750GB WD Black in UltraBay, Win 7 64-bit Pro, WXGA+ LED backlit (1440x900) w/ cam, bluetooth, integrated graphics

well the samsung series 7 gamer is really an enticing machine, we have to see some reviews and hand on when the machine launches, even the 675m one is not really launched.

Re: Work/Gaming laptop soon
You know, I wondered about that. I do remember seeing a 15.6" at BestBuy but I don't remember all the specs.
I hate reading previews when it isn't obvious that they are previews. Again, I don't see this purchase happening until June, so all the new goodies (IVB, 7970M, etc) should be available.lenovo T400... Re: Work/Gaming laptop soon
the 15 was called chronos, now I think its another titan or god from greek mythology, and it was packing a 6750m now its packing a gt 650m, quite a different beast from the series 7 gamer, the past revision used the 6970m

Re: Work/Gaming laptop soon
So, back at Bestbuy for another reason. Looked at the Chronos and a beast of an Asus (line 1249 buck and 13 pounds, I think).
The Chronos keyboard was very springy. I do not like that at all.
Now, I am waffling again. I am so undecided.
Do I get 2 lappies?? A work and a gaming separate?? I am thinking this because I keep working on my lenovo T400 and LOVE THE FEEL. the lappie feels completely solid. No flex, excellent work, going strong at 4 years. It is the one in my sig, of course. I could upgrade teh SSD and HDD and image over my information. its 14 inch at 1440x900. I like so much about it.
SO... do I replace it? (maybe a T520?) and get a gamer separate?
But, getting 1 combo laptop means that I can work OR game when I am on the road. I am mostly thinking vacations and visiting family. BUT... if I am in a cabin on the lake in Michigan, I am usually not jonesing for gaming.
I could update my T400... Newegg has the 256GB SSD w/ transfer kit for 259. A Seagate 7200RPM 750GB for 130 or a WD 5400RPM 750GB for 110.
SO, for like $400 max, I get the big storage solutions for my T400.
Ramble is over. Unless, we have some comments about keyboard and build of Lotus, xotic Sagers, etc.lenovo T400... T9400 C2D, 8GB G-Skill PC3-8500 RAM,256GB SSD Crucial M4 boot + 750GB WD Black in UltraBay, Win 7 64-bit Pro, WXGA+ LED backlit (1440x900) w/ cam, bluetooth, integrated graphics

Re: Work/Gaming laptop soon
So, the question is whether to add more updates to my Penryn (?) based proc laptop. T9400, Core 2 Duo or to go ahead and upgrade.
