Re: Laptop for college/programming and light entertainment
There is no additional form
Ivybridge laptops will not yet be out by then. From the crop of laptops available right now(and you have mentioned you can pick it up from the US),
X220 with the IPS display(prices will come down to clear out stock)
T420 with the screen upgrade if possible
Dell Vostro 3450/3350/V131
There are a few models with glossy screens but excellent battery lives
Toshiba R835
Acer 3830T
Where in Europe are you getting your laptop from?
You could get the Thinkpad E320.
You could try this in India

Re: Laptop for college/programming and light entertainment
How much of the problem is a glossy screen (I mean is the reflective surface a big distraction)?
In Europe could get from Denmark/Sweden/Finland (am checking flipkart too now).

Re: Laptop for college/programming and light entertainment
If you intend to use the laptop outside, then please make sure that the screen is bright enough to be seen(even if it is matte). Glossy screens will struggle under such conditions. But they shouldn't cause you any problems if you are in a shaded place(again dependent on the brightness). I would recommend you try out a friend's laptop that has a glossy screen to determine if you are alright making that compromise. Matte screens are preferable if you work a lot on the move.
