Re: No Idea What to Do!
I would say no to Mac. Just went 2 years with one after being a PC guy my whole life...and I'm selling the mac and going back to PC right now. Not worth it considering I stay in bootcamp 80% of the time XD

Re: No Idea What to Do!
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Most of my friends keep saying that investing in a mac was a great idea even after being pc people for their entire lives. Is this merely a fashion statement of sorts?
I may consider the HP Folio as suggested by lovelaptops.

Re: No Idea What to Do!
Unless you're going to do heavy editing (video, music, graphics) then I think Macs are too expensive compared to the pc performance you can get for a similar price

Re: No Idea What to Do!
They are a fashion statement, that's all. Don't believe otherwise.
The ***only*** objective measure that can even remotely suggest that Mac > PC is that Apple products typically have higher resale value, but that's just because of the cult following that some Apple users have.
As for the actual product itself, it's just the same as competing products, just a tad bit shinier. Both are x86 computers with Asus motherboards built by Foxconn (just being general here...Gigabyte also makes laptop motherboards, for example).
That's nonsense. What makes video editing better on a Mac than a similarly-spec'ed (or better) Windows system? Both platforms have excellent video production software; actually, Apple has been neglecting its video production user base in recent years.
Software-wise, OSX isn't special to video editing. Hardware-wise, it's obvious that non-OSX systems are more cost-effective.Last edited by Kuroi-Tsubasa; 12th April 2012 at 10:04 PM.

Re: No Idea What to Do!
I already agreed with this earlier. Way too expensive, which is why I'm going back to a PC.
I personally prefer the Mac audio and video editing software over Windows...in terms of performance the OS doesn't make a difference. I just like things like Final Cut Pro more than anything on windows.
Unless he likes the software and osx feel on a mac....well that's just about the only positive for buying one (that and the resale value like you said). I think my last post communicated something other than what I wanted

Re: No Idea What to Do!
au contrair, MBP's are sorely lacking in video editing and high end graphics for a few years, and getting weaker in audio too.
My 8760W is roughly 200% faster for video editing ( broadcast video ) vs my mbp 17". and about 50-75% up in prepress dedign ( with less crashes too )
its more of a case where Macs USED to be a better option and the stigma holdsMBP 17" i7-2.2, 16GB, 512 SSD / 750 in optibay
