Re: Are lenovo laptops reliable?
Their Thinkpads are known for their reliability. I've had my brand new Y470p Ideapad for two months and it's had zero issues so far. I kind of beat on it too because it is in my backpack for college, but it holds up fine.

Re: Are lenovo laptops reliable?
Lenovo's reputation for reliability is very good, but that's because they're best-known for their business-class Thinkpads. Consumer lines (i.e. Ideapads) will not be as reliable, nor will customer service be as good. However, I haven't heard much on the negative side about customer service or reliability from Lenovo's consumer division, so you're likely to be as well-off with an Ideapad as any other consumer laptop.

But, it is hard to predict how a certain new model, WITH a NEW Intel Ivy CPU and NEW Nvidia graphics is going to behave. Should be fine, but there is always a risk of getting a lemon.
That is why I let others buy and complain/praise, and then I buy the best obvious choice...
All in all, Lenovo is one of the companies you are least likely to get a bad product from.

Re: Are lenovo laptops reliable?
Where are you seeing that price? That's the Y580, it's not on sale yet and won't be until May from what I've been told -- and the pricing is still "To be discussed". It might end up being a little too good to be true, but if that price stands it is an incredible price.
Oh, and Lenovo (formerly IBM in the U.S.) has always stood behind any product I've had an issue with, I buy a lot of ThinkPads.

Re: Are lenovo laptops reliable?
I have a thinkpad i-series from 1999 which still works today. Another 2 year thinkpad E420 works like new. Yes, literally like new, boot in less than a minute.

Re: Are lenovo laptops reliable?
I had a thinkpad for about 3 or 4 years, and it was absolutely great. In that time I had absolutely 0 issues. The only reason I got rid of it was for an upgrade. Lenovo is probably one of the most reliable brands out there, so I wouldn't doubt their quality at all.

Re: Are lenovo laptops reliable?
The reliability of Thinkpads, more specifically the T/W/X series, has nothing to do with the reliability of Ideapads. I'm not saying that Ideapads have bad build quality, it's just that the Thinkpads' reputation falsely skews the Ideapads' reputation.

Re: Are lenovo laptops reliable?
I had an Ideapad that was junk. Just after the warranty expired the battery died. Then many buttons in the keyboard went bad. It is also loud.
My T60 is on the other hand almost like when it was new, 5 years ago.
