Default ~12" For movies, surfing, and light gaming

A lot of my use will be with Netflix, and the like, as well as plenty of browsing. On occasion I'll do some light gaming, mostly cheap games you get for a couple dollars on Steam sales and Humble Bundle deals. It would be nice if it could play Diablo III, however.

It must be light and durable as I hope to drop it in my messenger bag and not feel any strain - I walk about 3 miles per day so a single pound makes a difference over the long haul. No optical drive.

I have a Crucial M4 SSD waiting for its new home, so the HDD needs to swappable.

A nice screen is a huge bonus. The X220 with IPS would be ideal if I could get it a tad cheaper.

I'd prefer to keep it under $500, but if something was perfect, I could go as high as, say, $600, maybe even $700. I'm a bang/buck kind of a guy more than a guy on a budget.

    Used/Refurbs are okay.

    Thanks for any help.

Not bad, I'll give it some thought. My main gripe with it is the one piece bottom; I'd want to upgrade the HDD and RAM, but I'm not sure I'd be able to on that.

Actually, I saw the Asus U24E with i7 for $800 and I got a bit tempted, but then I saw that it isn't compatible with Sata III... sigh.. there's no laptop that's 'just right' for me.

Accoring to Steve Chippy from UMPCPortal.com, it can take an SSD and it holds up to 8gb of RAM

    Alienware M14x: i7 2630QM 2.0ghz; NVIDIA GT555M 3.0GB @ 800/1050/1600; 8GB DDR3 RAM 1600mhz; 64gb Crucial M4 SSD + 500GB 7,200RPM HDD; 14.0 in. WLED HD+ 1600x900 Display; Intel 6205 Advanced WiFi; Klipsch 2.1 Stereo Speakers w/ Subwoofer

HP Pavilion dm1-4170us Notebook PC, charcoal

Use 25TECHBARG to get another $25 off. Please verify if the 9.5mm drive fits or not(I think it will). Please look for reviews too.

Keep an eye on prices of Dell E6220 units at the outlet. It has an expresscard slot so can add a ~$200 GTX460-768MB DIY eGPU for more than just light gaming.

    Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

The HP is decent, but I think the only good thing about it is the long battery life and decent proc, but neither are really anything to write home about.

I had been looking at the E6220 and very nearly bought one during the outlet sale a month or two ago. I regretted not buying it, but then I completely forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me, ha.

I wonder if there's a 12.5" laptop with which I could put an x220 IPS screen inside? They're 150 on ebay. Hmm, I doubt it'd fit in the Samsung ones with their tiny bezels.

I remember why I didn't buy it at first. None of the outlet deals had a webcam... but then if I bought one with a webcam, the X220 screen probably wouldn't fit. Hmm.
