    Default P150HM vs Asus G53SX

Hey, I am purchasing a gaming laptop soon, after I sell my Macbook Air, and I am having some trouble deciding which one.

    My budget is about $1500.

If I get the P150HM I would upgrade the graphics to the 6970m, that would raise the price to about $1400, with the $100 off coupon.

The G53SX-DH71 is about $1400 also, but it has a backlit keyboard.

I know the Malibal is the best deal for the money, and has the best performance, but what about build quality, and cooling?

Does the Asus beat the Malibal in anything?

Pretty much just the backlit keyboard.

Oh, and the free Asus bag is better than the free Malibal bag.

the cooling and build quality of the malibal/clevo is top notch. you will be hard pressed to find another 15 inch with a better cooling solution.

another big advantage to clevo ( which the malibal is built on) is that it is very easy to open up and maintain. this is important for a high end laptop since frequent cleaning of fans/heatsinks and repasting of the gpu/cpu can prolong a high end laptops life. you cannot do the same on an asus g53. As far as I know, a gpu repasting job that w ill take 5 minutes in a clevo will take an hour or two on a g53. also, opening up a malibal yourself will not void its warranty.

you better hurry though since the malibal model you are considering is in short supply and will eventually be replaced by the new line with backlit keyboard, ivy bridge, and a new line of gpus. if you are willing to wait and add to your budget, this could be the model that could work out for you...

I am not sure if I would want to add any money, I am kind of on a tight budget. Plus I heard ivy bridge won't be coming till June :/

The cooling on the P150HM is excellent, and the build quality is pretty sturdy as well. I'd suggest you go with the Malibal, especially since the 6970M is a significant amount better than the 560M. Also, if you even were to buy an Asus, don't buy the G53SX. It has a gimped 2GB 560M (all the 2GB 560M's are gimped), which noticeably lowers its performance compared to a regular 560M. A 460M or 1.5GB/3GB 560M is what you'd want to look for in an Asus.

Clevo is the superior machine here in pretty much everything from build quality, cooling, ease of access to internals, upgradability and performance.

the p150em will have a backlit keyboard and optimus to boot, so i would just suck it up and wait. not to mention it should have an ivy bridge cpu and at some point a 680m.
