Is xotic-pc worth it?
I'm currently looking at this laptop from Xotic-PC: Sager NP8131 / Built on Clevo P151 - XOTIC PC
The specs look great at a decent price.
Do you guys know anything about xotic-pc?
Any downsides from buying from a third party distributor?
Can you find me a better laptop than this?
Thanks guys,
David

Keep in mind that the price you see is without an Operating System. There's an option near the bottom of the page to add Windows 7 to the configuration.
But it's a great option if gaming is your primary requirement.Dell Precision M4400 - QX9200 | 15.4" 1920x1200 RGBLED | Quadro 770M | 4GB | 500GB | 7 Pro

Re: Is xotic-pc worth it?
I will be going to college next year for computer science. I need a powerful computer with a big resolution. It also needs to be portable enough to use all around. I also love gaming so the big graphics card is a must. 560m would be great and anything more than that would be overkill for me.

Keep in mind that that's a placeholder page, and they can't ship it until mid April at the earliest.

Re: Is xotic-pc worth it?
Xoticpc, Powernotebooks, Malibal, Gentechpc are all resellers who have excellent customer service and also provide gr8 upgrade options at the best prices. I ed def recommend buying from any of these resellers rather than getting it from any other store or showroom.
The 560m is a gr8 card and should be able to play most of the games in high/ultra settings with few exceptions like Witcher II, Skyrim, BF3, Arkham City, Metro 2033 etc where you will have to resort to med/high settings.
The NP 8131 is currently not updated with its actual specs and hence shipping cannot start before mid april. So I ed suggest you to wait til mid april and have a look at the revised specs.
If gaming is your priority and you want to get a laptop immediately then the best option would be to get it from Malibal.
The Lotus P151HM1 can be ordered immediately from Malibal with a GTX560m here.
Lotus P151HM1 - MALIBAL
If you intend on playing games like BF3 then select the quad core i7 2670QM as these games are CPU sensitive too.
If you intend on getting the best GPU then I ed suggest you grab the 6970m as it is the best GPU you can currently get in a 1400$ budget. The 6990m is currently not available in any of the models except for the Alienware which is clearly too expensive.
You can also check out Force laptops from Xoticpc which come with the GTX570m which is a better card compared to the 560m but not as good as the 6970m.
Force 16F2 - Xoticpc
But again the best thing to do would be to wait til mid april. But again if ur in a hurry the LotusP151HM1 is a gr8 laptop to have.XOTIC PC - SAGER NP9170

Re: Is xotic-pc worth it?
I've had my 150HM (very close to the 151HM, just more flexible GPU options and different case) from Malibal (another clevo reseller) for about 6 months and so far it has been a great laptop. The 560m is plenty but for a CPU, you'll definitely want at least an i7. As a programmer myself, I know you can't go wrong with a better CPU.
However, if you don't need a laptop until next year, you could wait for quad core ivy bridge laptops to come out for much better expected performance compared to sandy bridge.
Downside from buying this instead of what your college would provide is that you'll either have to send the laptop in for repairs or wait for them to ship you parts. Colleges usually will give you a rental laptop for the duration of the time it takes to fix the one they give you. Upside is that you will probably get the best price per performance from xotic/malibal/other resellers unless your school gives you a significant discount on their designated option.MALIBAL Lotus P150HM
