I just priced out an M6600 for another guy in this forum last night for about $3,000. Yes, it is heavier and thicker than the Blade, but I think it is thinner than a 17" Sager/Clevo. Plus, the screen is the best on the market. Also, it has "professional" looks. But if it is too heavy for your taste, then I'd look at HP Envy 17.

Dell Precision M6600 - $2,889.00 (configured on US website)
    i7-2860qm
    4GB RAM (upgrade yourself)
    AMD Firepro M8900
    17.3" UltraSharp™ FHD(1920x1080) PremierColor IPS RGB Anti-Glare LED
128GB (SATA3) Mobility Solid State Drive
(add your own HDD, this has room for a second drive)

Look at HPs envy 15/17 or the Samsung Series 7 Chronos. Similar performance to the blade, similar form factor yet half the price.

Agreed, the M6600 would be a perfect fit. I'd take it over the blade or any of the other choices presented here in a heart beat. Plus Dell warranty is awesome.

I use a m6600 for work and there is no comparing it to the blade. The build quality of the 6600 is marginal I was pretty disappointed when i got it. The display is good and the machine is a work horse and all things considered its a good machine but Dell and all the rest of the manufactures need to start taking build and materials lessons from apple. I absolutly hate apple and thier products so it hurts to say that but its the truth.
The power brick for the 6600 is big its not a carry around machine.

Ive had some of the HP Elite books and they are built well but suck for any kind of gpu/gaming.

    Keep the blade.

Go with Sager NP9150 / Clevo P150EM. You won't get as thin as the Blade but weight is about same and performance is probably triple what you can ever get with the Blade.

Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge i7 Quad
    15" 1920x1080 95% gamut matte screen
Radeon 7970m (beast of a gaming GPU)
    16GB DDR3 1600 (2x8GB - room for 16GB more later if desired)
2x120GB Intel 520 SSD RAID 0 (if desired) OR single 240GB Intel 520GB OR 120GB SSD + HDD in optical drive bay
    Backlit keyboard with numberpad
Intel 6235 Wi-Fi N with Bluetooth OR 6300 (triple wire N but no BT)
    Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    6.83 lbs.

    ~ $2000 to $2200 depending on configuration

Or get the NP9170 with same config for 17" if you desire about same price. Or go with NP9130 which has a smaller power supply to drop 0.25 lbs, but can't run the faster video cards.

You can't get any more professional than a Sager. It's simple but elegant and powerful.

Edit: Oh yeah gaming, you can game 24/7 if you want to, the cooling in the machine is the best you can get. Visit here and click on gallery: http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9150-...em-p-4341.html.
If you want the performance, future-proofing, and professional appearance you're going to have to get thicker and likely heavier, but pretty much every 15-17" laptop out there that is for "gaming" is at least twice as powerful as the Blade. I mean the Clevo W110ER is 11.6" and about 50% faster than the Blade and weighs less than 4 lbs. And honestly, if you want as thin and light as possible, you will sacrifice performance. Just physics.

I'm not sure why this thread got dug up, but I beg to differ. I don't know which Elitebooks/GPUs you've used, but they were clearly the wrong ones.

I guess i'll chime in. The blade is about the best you can do and still maintain full laptop portability. The only real step up is something like an np9150 or np9170 to still maintain a true laptop form factor but even there the 100w draw on the gpu will create extra heat and draw the battery down faster. Enduro/optimus will help things along some.

Anything much bigger than the above rigs is a bit silly except in special circumstances.

    Blade for portability
Mid range sager/msi for more power.

100W draw is not at idle. It will be completely shut off when on battery, so battery life will likely be longer than the Blade. it will likely draw < 20W on battery for regular tasks.

I still don't understand this "portability" issue. The blade still has the same footprint as a 17", only a little bit thinner, slightly lighter. What bothers me most is that it is far from a "gaming" laptop. It has mediocre specs at best, and released with trailing edge technology that is beat by most laptops 13-15". The Blade UI is only a gimmick as noted by the OP.
