yeah dont worry i can configure myself, im just looking for your wisdom about what i want "good quality screen and silence" and your expertise as a sony user

I could go for I7 + premium screen + HDD 7200trm without problem if necessary

The thing is im wondering if the laptop wont make more noise with an i7 instead of a i5, and if 7200 hdd are best regarding silence or if 5400 make less noise...

    What do you think ?

up, the promotion is ending soon!

and BTW i have the choice between 2 cpu and none of them are quadcore

    IntelŪCore(TM)i7-2640M,2.80GHz

    IntelŪCore(TM)i5-2450M,2.50GHz

What do you think for quietness ?

The will be the same (they are both 35W cpu's that have to be cooled)
The one is higher clocked than the other, depending on the upgrade price it could be worth it.

160€ upgrade price, will only watch movies and play poker

not worth it eh? should go for the i5 no?

what about this one : Processeur IntelŪ Core™ i7-2670QM (2,20 GHz)

but its then another total different configuration that i should work on.

Its quad core, what do you know about heat and quietness?

Ps: thanks again for your quick reply

For what you're doing, the i5 is plenty.

The quad-core i7 produces more heat, requiring more cooling, resulting in potentially more noise. It's also way overkill for your intended usage.

If you're thinking i5 versus dual-core i7, DO NOT GET THE DUAL-CORE i7. The dual-core i7 is an Intel marketing gimmick. It's significantly more expensive than the dual-core i5 and baaaaaaarely faster...as in good luck noticing the difference without benchmarking software.

As for i5 versus quad-core i7, there's no real downside to the quad-core i7 besides cost. It's going to be noticeably faster when you're actually working the machine (EDIT: seeing your usage, you'd probably never notice the difference), yet it won't create substantially more noise or drain substantially more power overall because it's not using all four cores during light load. Besides, if you're in an office meeting or a library, you can turn the fan profile (in the Vaio Control Center) to silent, and it'll nerf power a bit but stay as quiet as you'd ever want.

EDIT: given how you're going to use the machine, I'd stick with the i5. You probably would not notice the performance benefits of a quad-core processor given your usage.

I think it's easy to add memory and swap drives, but I've never done it myself, so I can't say for sure. Just remember that they don't ship physical recovery media--you have to make it yourself with Vaio Care--so do that before switching the drives.
