Considering that web-videoediting and web-streaming (non hd for now) of semi-pro sprot events, webtv editor, photoshop - illustrator high end use, with extreme multitasking are my main meal everyday, could this beast make my day?
At glance, only main down... are the speakers
, i'm a little spoiled on my old laptop.
Thx for pointing it out, any other suggests?
I've been a "partially satisfied" HP Compaq 8710w owner (Intel Core2 Duo T7700@2.40GHz, 2gb ram, video quadro fx1600m 512mb) for three years, and 'till now i've done my best with this laptop, but starting to suffer a bit and want to definatly decrease render and converting time..... Tried finding something on HP Italy, but can't find the same configs' found on the HP US site :-(Last edited by zut; 28th December 2011 at 11:44 AM.

Review Dell Precision M6600 Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
That review should clarify most of your questions.
The reason I asked you to contact Dell was that many in the US and other countries have been successfully able to bring down the price of their purchase by another 10-20% with a little bit of haggling with the sales team. You should be able to do the same. This was also possible with HP(please call the sales team to ask for a particular custom config). You could also try the same(customers in India have got 8% off as corporate discount or some such).
On the HP front, there is Elitebook 8760w.

Editing should not be a problem. These processors are fast enough to handle the kind of workload you want to dump on it. The hardware is top-notch.

Re: New Laptop video-editing, extreme multitask
I edit off the 8740w and 8760W, I have not tried the m6600 hands on but looks like a nice option. main reason I went with HP was the NBD support options in my area and the IPS screen availability.
as said above call in, I got 28% off both my ElitebooksMBP 17" i7-2.2, 16GB, 512 SSD / 750 in optibay
MBA 13" 4GB, 256 SSD
MBP 13" i7 2.3 8GB 256 SSD
Elitebook 8740W i7 940XM, m7820, 32GB, 512 SSD / 1T optibay, DC2 IPS Screen
Elitebook 8760w i7 2960xm, q5010, 32GB, 512 SSD, BD writer, Gobi WWAN, DreamColor IPS, 5yr NBD w/ accidental

Re: New Laptop video-editing, extreme multitask
Yes, that is the SECOND choice laptop that nears the Dell M6600 config (but ram is 1333MHz and not 1600MHz! Would that make a big difference in performance?).
Called Hp, and told me that my local vendor can order the Elitebook with customised config...
This is what i asked for, through a friend of mine that is a local vendor:
Workstation portatile HP EliteBook 8760w (LY530EA)
Primary features:
Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM (2,20 GHz, 6 MB L3 di cache)
RAM 16gb SDRAM DDR3, 1333 MHz 2 x 8192 MB
Storage SATA II da 750 GB a 7200 rpm
Video FHD WVA matte retroill. LED 43,9 cm (17,3") (1920 x 1080)
Video Card NVIDIA Quadro 3000M con 2 GB GDDR5
(last but not least a firewire port, for elder minidv cams)
Secondary Features:
VD+/-RW SuperMulti DL
S.O. Windows® 7 Professional autentico 64
1 Express Card/54; 1 Smart Card; 1 SD/MMC
Webcam HD
Waiting for price..... but the HP EliteBook 8760w base is already pretty high

Re: New Laptop video-editing, extreme multitask
For firewire, you could buy something like this.
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-E.../dp/B000RKUKMG
Something similar to this is available with many retailers in your area.
EDIT:And RAM will not make much off a difference. The performance gain would be as low as 1-2% at best.
