Default Thinkpad vs. IdeaPad - what is the difference?

never used one. I know the Thinkpad is substantially more expensive. Why are the Thinkpads so much more expensive than everything else?

Which particular models are you looking at?

For example the Thinkpad T and W series are much more durable than the IdeaPads, which are basic consumer laptops that have somehow managed to steal their big brothers' reputation

The T, W, and X-Series laptops offer much better display options too.

IdeaPads often offer better GPUs for gaming purposes, but if you're a gamer then there are better options than IdeaPads.

    so if I understand things

    1) Thinkpads are the "legendary" Lenovo/IBM high quality build models, whereas Ideapads are more consumer-oriented (i.e. "cheaper"), build-wise

    2) Thinkpads usually are more business-oriented, with the T/W/X having very high quality screens

    3) Ideapads are consumer laptops of questionable quality that generally aren't worth the price

    Do I follow?

The T520 and W520 have exactly the same screens. The T420 is a bit lacking in display quality, but the T520 is not.
