Default US vs UK laptop enter keys

I am looking at various 13-14" laptops at the moment but have not yet decided. however when I do, I have friends in america that could buy the laptop and send it to me. the only thing worrying me is that as far as i am aware, US keyboards have a much smaller slimmer enter key rather than the UK style which is more of a big squarer block. I have just checked out a few laptops in pcworld and they ALL had the UK style enter key.

I assume if i get one bought from america it would have this slim enter key on it (which would drive me mad so be no use to me)?

thats what i mean, would hate that. UK enter key is 2 keys high and about 1.5 keys wide on the bottom half and 1.75 keys wide on the top half. i guess all US keyboards are the same so ill have no choice but to buy in UK and pay the stupid prices here.

You can get replacement keyboards for almost any laptop for less than $50.00

Can't really help with initial question but just wanted to make sure:

You are aware an American keyboard would have a different layout as well, yes? If not keep in mind that the keyboard would be labelled differently (@ and " for example are reversed and a lot of symbols are in different places). Obviously you can change which keyboard layout you use in the OS but unless you're a touch typer it might be frustrating or annoying to switch back and forth between UK/US.

If you're aware then fine fine, but better to be safe and say this now just in case.

yeh was aware but had forgotten about that. looking at Sony's at the moment and knowing their prices, and the keyboard design of the sony's, even IF i could get it replaced over here, the cost wouldnt be £50, and it would probably void the warranty so its probably not worth it. looks like im stuck getting it from here, just means a $2000 laptop is going to cost £2000 (about $3200) here with their standard 1:1 ridiculous conversion rates for these things.

Double check that. getting a keyboard replaced almost never voids a warranty.

not a simple replacement though, changing US to UK with keys in different places may not be such a simple swap out? (or maybe it makes no difference? I assume being a sony, sony would have to do the swap)

It's a very simple swap on my machine. Again, call them and ask.
