What to buy? Budget, High screen res and fast...
All,
Here's goes - hope there's an answer to my quest but becoming unsure there is having spent a good bit of time surfing and getting no where... Over to you.
In short I want something with a fast processor, plenty of RAM and a BIG screen res on a shoestring!

1) What is your budget?
£400 or $650 MAX
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

Image processing using Adobe Photoshop and Bibble 5 (Introducing Bibble 5 - half way down)

Mainly leaving on my desk
8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
No
9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
2 Hours
10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
On-line is fine
11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

* Offered on Notebook 15" and larger
Something along those lines as most of the work is image processing based...
13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
No idea, probably glossy given it's mainly for image work.
Build Quality and Design
14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Not really
15) When are you buying this laptop?

Notebook Components
17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive?
Not a great deal as use external harddrives too but 500gb would be nice...
18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?
CDRW/DVD-ROM is fine

The best you'll find for $679 or so is the Acer 7552G or the refurb for $579
Those have 1600x900 screens.Current primary work machine: Sony VAIO SA
Current play machine: HP DV6Z-6135DX A8-3400@2.6GHz 6750M
Current backup portable: Acer C7 Chromebook running Chrubuntu / Acer Aspire One AO722 C50 w 9cell battery
Past machines: Toshiba T4700, Lenovo T-42, Lenovo SL-400, Lenovo S10 w 9 cell battery, Toshiba T235D Acer 4820TG w ATI 5650M

What if I kept the same spec but went for 1366x768??

Well now, don't lie to the guy, if he goes with a cyberpower xplorer with no OS he can get the screen, a SB i5 in it, 7200 rpm hdd, all for less than 650 shipped.
