Default College, working, and League of Legends

    General Questions

    1) What is your budget?

$1360. Can go a little over if needed.

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?

    d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

    3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.

USA or Denmark. I live in USA right now but will be moving back to Denmark in June.

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

    No

    5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?

    Properly not.

    6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?

Play a lot of League of Legends and a few other games. I’ll also going to use it to study and work in a bank.

    7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?

    Both.

    8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?

League of Legends, Football Manager, Cycling manager maybe Scarcraft II.

    9) How many hours of battery life do you need?

    Not that important.

    10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?

It is ok. But I must be sure that the notebook looks professional.

    11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

    Windows.

    Screen Specifics

    12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer? Keep in mind screen size in conjunction with resolution will play a large role in overall viewing comfort level. Everyone is different. Some like really small text, while others like their text big and easy to read. If you are unsure of what to purchase, we would highly recommend you check some notebook screens before you buy to see what you like. You may also wish to take a look at the notebook screen guide for more information.

    • Midrange Resolutions: WXGA+, HD+, 900p

    • Maximum Resolutions: WSXGA+, WUXGA, FHD, 1080p

    13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?

I guess a matte screen would be best. Sometimes I spend 8 hours in row working on big Excel sheets, assignments, or League of Legends. But a matte screen is not a must.

    Build Quality and Design

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

Yes/No. I must be sure that the notebook looks professional so that I can bring it to work in the financial sector. But other than that I don’t care.

    15) When are you buying this laptop?

As soon as possible. But I will wait if I can get sandy bridge processors.

    16) How long do you want this laptop to last?

For $1360 it should last a long time, 3-4 years I guess.

    Notebook Components

    17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive?

I don’t need that much space. SSD or hybrid could be cool, although I properly don’t need it.

    18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?

    Yes, at least DVD burner.

    ==========
    END COPY

So I’m looking for a gaming notebook that I can bring to my work. Also, it must be very quite in office mode! I can’t use a notebook that have noisy fans when I’m only using Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc. It is okay that it makes noise when I game.

I have some experience in laptops, computer etc. I have dismantled my old laptops several times to clean it, fix an USB port and such. I have spend a lot of hours surfing the internet to look at laptops.

I hope you all can help me to make the right decision.

Did you try looking at the Asus G53? I believe its fan isn't that noisy considering its specs. I think it falls in your price range.

I think the G53 is a very good laptop, but I'm afraid that it looks a bit to wierd to bring to my work.

Look at the Sager gaming laptops. They're much plainer than the Asus or Alienware or MSI gaming laptops The Sager NP5160 or NP8130 should be good fits for you, and they can come with FD 1080 screens as well.

I was not happy with either of the suggested laptops, the Sager is too noisy in idle mode (listen to YouTube - Sager NP8130 Video Review by XOTIC PC around 21:40) and the G53 didn’t have the right looks to bring to my office. So I decided to keep searching the net for the perfect laptop for me. If anybody else is looking for the same laptop as me, well here is what I found out:

It is almost impossible to find a laptop that can game, looks neutral, have a matte full hd screen, and is quiet in idle/office mode.

But the MSI GX660 seems like a almost perfect fit: it can certainly game with its ATI 5870 GPU, it looks neutral (the orange lights can be turned off), if you order through xoticpc you can choose a matte screen, and it seems like it is fairly quiet (at least in idle mode, see YouTube - MSI GX660R-060 Video Review PART 2 by XoticPC around 4:40 – or read http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-....40238.0.html).

It even has an express slot so it might be possible to connect an external GPU to it down the road… Only thing it is missing is the Sandy Bridge processors. For that you have to get the MSI GT680R but I can’t afford that. Other considerations might be the Alienware M14 but it isn't out yet so it is hard to know if it is good.

Anyway, I hope this helps out others that are looking for the same as I was. I will order a GX660 one of these days, perhaps do a review of it with the matte screen and the noise levels, when I get it.
