Where to find laptop or netbook with matte screen?

Virtually every laptop and netbook now seem to have glossy screens.

I can't use a glossy screen. They cause reflections indoors, and are
unusable outdoors.

Why have they stopped making matte screens?

I don't want to have to stick something on top of a glossy screen which
will probably bubble.

I do believe all netbooks pretty much have a matte screen, certainly the Samsungs do.

On notebooks, it's often a configuration option if you're configuring a machine to spec, but expect to pay a little more.

Why are screens glossy? The cynical view is the gloss finish helps to hide flaws with the underlying screen. Users typically don't see flaws, such as uneven backlighting, as easily.

The Google Page Ranking point of view is that the gloss helps give the impression of 'deeper blacks.' Certainly on my older Dell with it's glossy TruLife screen this was true; black was so black you couldn't tell if it was turned on.

You might look at the business class machines from Dell, Lenovo, etc. There are some models that have matte screens.
