Default 13/14" notebook that can rival MBP in battery life and build quality

    Hi everyone,

I am currently looking for a new notebook for university and I need something light, durable and with long battery life. My budget is € 1400, including a three year warranty, taxes, shipping and everything. The 13 inch MBP really caught my eye, since I could get it for € 1190 with my student discount, with 3 years of Applecare, a free IPod and a free printer. I would probably sell the printer and the IPod and get an external monitor for home.

However, I was wondering whether there was a notebook with comparable build quality (probably a business notebook) and equally great battery life (somewhere around 6-7 hours for office work/note-taking at uni would be great) that anyone could recommend. It would also be great if the notebook was fairly quiet, since I would probably use it in the library a lot and there the fan shouldn't go crazy for stuff like Word and a bit of browsing (no Flash).

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated -
    thanks in the advance -
    Peter

Perhaps a T410 with the LED screen, nine-cell and modular batteries would put you there. ThinkPads are better built in my opinion. It sounds like you really like the MBP. If you've got the budget, there's no reason to get something else.

If you plan on using OS X, get the Mac, else seriously consider another notebook.

No, legal copies can be installed, apple just wants it to be illegal to install it on something other than one of their own computers.
