Default i5-430M -OR- i7-720QM ?

Many brands are giving a tough choice to choose between i5-430M and i7-720QM. If we will compare both the processors, which has the edge over other ?

i7-720QM: 4 cores, 6 MB L3 cache, No integrated graphics, 45 watt
i5-430M: 2 cores, 3 MB L3 cache, Integrated graphics, 35 watt

In performance, the 720QM. In battery duration and price, the 430M.

The i5-520M is in between (but closer to the 430M) and has Virtualization and AES extensions that are disabled in the 430M, but you won't find those in a store at the moment, just online/customized orders.

430M is a great processor... if you're not doing heavy video editing or want peak performance, it will give a laptop that is lighter and runs longer on battery.

There is NO price difference between these two, which at least seems from the laptop prices of Asus N61JQ (i7-720QM) and N61JA (i5-430M) of both $1065 USD and apart from the procesor rest ALL things are same with these two laptops.

I guess you can consider heat, which may or may not affect the life of a laptop. i5 would run cooler than i7.

Integrated graphics is good in the i5, but I really haven't read of any laptops that even have that option enabled. Why brands disable this I don't know.

I think the N61JA has i5 with blue ray while the other one just have Dvd/Cd drive...isn't it?? so there is about a $100-150 price difference.

That's not completely true...

http://www.excaliberpc.com/hardware/...88-mobile.html

By the way, I find it a little strange that the processor upgrade from the custom retailers (at least for the n61ja) actually cost *more* than the processor itself.

Well they have to get paid for their labor...

Actually a lot of it probably has to do with the warranty issue too

That's because Asus doesn't ship barebones, they ship their models with CPU, hard drive, and everything else. So if you upgrade the processor, you're paying for the processor the model shipped with, PLUS the processor you're upgrading to. Has very little to do with labor and nothing to do with warranties.

But the price difference of N61JA processors listed at XoticPC/PNB are huge and much more than the actual processor price. Which means i5-430M costs approx $0 which is included with the default configuration ?
