wireless... or not?
Hello, I was simply wondering for what kind of notebook use it is good or essential to have wireless LAN (another question I have is whether wireless LAN means you can get wireless internet)? I would use my notebook at home for the vast majority of the time, but I might be moving from place to place considerably in the following years. So I wanted to know if it is complicated to reconnect to the internet (not wireless, using cable modem) in a different city or country, and how it would be done; how would it work if I had wireless internet (I also need to know what are the high-speed options for wireless, since I don't suppose cable modem would apply)? If you have any other details to give me about wireless LAN/internet, they would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I guess there's not really an "ideal" notebook to have for wireless purposes, but usually some that wants to use wireless, wants to be mobile. A smaller & lighter unit would be best, but not necessary.
Some people use a wireless router for their broadband internet so they don't have to run wiring all over the house or if they want to be able to go outside to work. Also, having a wireless connection, will allow you to connect to "hotspots" located in airports, coffee houses, etc... These "hotspots" are places where anybody with a wifi (wireless) card with compatible technology, can connect to the internet free of charge.
If you move around to different locations and get broadband internet, you can connect a wireless broadband router and allow yourself yo roam your house wirelessly. Depending on where you are, services may be limited. Some areas may have DSL others only cable, but it's generally setup the same way your current broadband internet is setup.
I have heard of wireless internet, but I'm not exactly sure how that works.

Adding wireless to your notebook at the time of purchase is usually cheap, if it's not already included. Go ahead and get it. Even if you don't set up a wireless network at home right now, it's nice to have for later.
