The Vostro 1320 is an option to consider.

Re: I need something light!
Sorry I should've mentioned that Dell is included in the list of brands I don't want...

Any reason in particular? The Vostro is a great machine, and comes with 3 years warranty standard.

Re: I need something light!
The 3 year warranty comes with it when you spend $1300, my budget is pretty much half that. :/

My bad, thought it was all Dell business notebooks.
Mqureshi, have you looked at the Dell Outlet? You will most likely find a good deal inside your price range for a Vostro. www.dell.com/outlet

Re: I need something light!
Look at the Dell Lattitude E4200, E4300, and E6400 at the dell outlet. E4300 is your best bet. Can be had for right under $700 with 3 year warranty standard. If you don't want to go with dells then you can take a look at lenovo. I'm not sure what models since I am at work but they run some good deals on their middle of the road series which is still going to give you better quality than most true consumer notebooks. Acer Timeline 3810 seems like a good fit for you. Most light notebooks are going to have an ULV processor. SU9400 seems to be the best option. Core 2 duo @ 1.4 Ghz. I wouldn't advise getting a core 2 solo or any single core processor if this will be your main computer.

Re: I need something light!
My dad won't let me buy one from an outlet.
I really like the Lenovo U350, but the processor is 1.3 GHz...
but right now its on sale for $600 and they give a pretty good student discount (or so I've heard)
