replacement for Asus G1S
I know I should post this on the other forum, but every time I try I am just logged out! I have no idea why.
I have an Asus G1s which i use for gaming and website design. It has been damaged (screen broken) and the insurers say that I can not obtain this model from their suppliersd (PC World UK)
I have been given the choice of:
ACER Aspire 6935Z
Dell XPS M1340
Sony VGN-FW31J
I don't have a clue which one would be the better one. I don't need it to do any more than the G1s, but nor do I want it to do less or be of a lower specification. Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
K

Screen Specifics
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
a. WXGA – 1280x800 or occasionally 1280x768; For people who like big text and icons that are easy to read. Less stuff fits on the screen, which translates into more scrolling.
b. WXGA+ – 1440x900; A modest bump over WXGA. Text and icons are a bit smaller. A little more stuff fits on the screen.
c. WSXGA+ – 1680x1050; The middle ground. Again, text and icons are smaller than WXGA+, and more stuff fits onto the screen. Good for having applications open side by side, like a web browser while playing a video.
d. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Very small text and icons, that can be hard to read. Lots of stuff fits on the screen, which means less scrolling. Good for applications that require a high level of detail like CAD or Photo Editing.

Re: replacement for Asus G1S
I assume you cannot take the £800 pounds and spend it how you would like. If you are able to you ought to check out pcspecialist.co.uk and novatec as they do decent specced laptops that would match the G1S.

Re: replacement for Asus G1S
The Acer Aspire has the best specs for gaming and probably the best balance of specs too followed by the sony. However none of the 3 will have as good a screen as the G1S. I am sorry to hear that your screen broke it is a beauty. I talking from experience thanks to having the same on my asus. Maybe a replacement screen is a possibility?

Re: replacement for Asus G1S
As someone said the acer would be best for gaming because of its 9600M, however I would much rather have the sony to be honest, or even the xps if for nothing else than resell value, acer = 499 on currys the sony and xps were worth 899. The vaio also has a blu-ray rom and supposedly they have really nice screens.
